A Night With Patty Griffin
I only have three pictures like this. You know the type. The ones where you’re standing next to someone ‘famous’ or ‘recognizable’ and want to capture that moment of meeting them. One is with Sixpence None The Richer back when I was in High School, one is with Jars Of Clay from when I first moved to Nashville and this one.
There’s a couple reasons I only have three of these types of pictures. One being, because I always, yes always, look super awkward. I look awkward because taking a picture like that is awkward. It’s weird to stand there and know that you are taking a picture with someone.
The other reason I only have three of these pictures is because I feel weird asking for them. Like the time I was walking through the Nashville airport and saw this guy named Barack Obama standing in the store where you buy bottled water and over priced peanut M&M’s. Yeah, kinda wishing I had the guts to ask for that picture, but I’ll get it next time. Or like the time I had lunch with Vince Gill and had the guts to ask him to pass the chicken, but not the guts to ask for a quick photo. Again, I’ll get it next time. Or the time I sat next to Randy Jackson on a plane and got an autograph for my mom, but felt weird asking for a picture with me. Or the time I was at Panera and got up to leave and Ben Folds was sitting at the table next to me. Or the time we were at J. Alexanders and Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman walked in. Yep, no pictures…. Because it’s awkward.
Well, last night I wasn’t going to let another one of those times pass. I mean, I’m in a studio sitting around a table chatting with Patty Griffin about how we thought the web-cast we just did went. Who does that? And who doesn’t document it somehow?! Not me. Not this time.
Anyway, we had a great time, the web-cast thing went great. There was a great camera crew, obviously the band sounded amazing and Patty was super nice and easy to work with. So I’ll call it a success.
Okay, so let’s hear it. Who do you have “that picture” with? Ready? Go.
Sugarland Photo
Last night was the first night I stayed out front for some of Sugarland’s show. Typically I have photos to edit, and things to pack up when they start, but last night I hung out and watched the start of their show and about four songs. I’ve been watching the crew load in all this amazing production for the last few weeks and I’ve seen bits and pieces of their show and the production, lights and stage set up blows me away. I stuck around long enough to take some pictures before my camera battery died and this was one I got.
Now we are in Johnson City, TN. I’m sitting on the bus sorting through some things that have potential to make my brain a little more organized while I am out here and make things simpler for everyone involved. Which is a nice thing. We are still in the process of sorting out all the details of Billy’s web world, but I know it’s going to be great once it’s all taken care of.
Not much else going on out here. I wish I had more fun stuff to talk about, but it’s been pretty mellow and my brain is a little fried from this morning.
I’m curious. What’s the most impressive concert you have ever been to production wise? Best lights, stage set-up, video?
Chairs

So, I don’t think anyone who has been on tour with a camera hasn’t taken this picture, but tonight I was walking around getting pictures for something that we wanted to try out on The Roadshow Blog, that turns out, only works with a PC. Seriously? Who makes things ‘only’ for a PC??! But if you’re running Windows or something check out this cool little thing we have going over there. All us Mac people are out of luck.
Today we were in Ontario, CA. I’m really, really not a fan of Southern California and anyone who knows me knows that I have never been. Something about it, just rubs me the wrong way and I don’t love being here. Now, before you all freak out and say that I’m a jerk, let me say this. I do happen to know some pretty amazing people that live here, but I just wish they would come live next to me. Throw your stones, or whatever. I just have a hard time with the ‘culture’ here. Sorry for the mini-rant, but I’m tired and ready to see my family.
We had a great show tonight though. Another sold out crowd, right at 9,000 people. There’s still something about that many people singing in a room that blows me away. My favorite part of the night and easily makes all of this work worth it. Anyway, I’m pretty tired tonight and headed to the bus. Tomorrow is Phoenix, which I can never spell right the first time.
SkörInc Christmas Tree Party
Alright peeps, here’s the deal. Since I know a lot of us won’t be checking in on many blogs for the next two days, but I wanted to keep the Christmas spirit alive on this here blog and I’d love for you to be a part of it. Here’s how.
(1) Take a picture of your Christmas Tree
(2) Email that picture to tree@skorinc.com
(3) Check out other folks trees at SkörInc’s Flickr Page
(4) Spread the word and let’s get as many people’s trees as we can.
(5) Do something other than be on the computer for Christmas.
Sounds easy enough right? Who’s with me?
Lubbock, TX
Well, tonight I played “Photographer” at the show. I haven’t really taken pictures of a show yet on this tour, but tonight’s venue was begging for it so I decided to run around with the camera for a while. Tomorrow is Abilene, and Sunday morning Cracker Barrel. Have a great Sunday.
Click on each picture to enlarge it. ** And Click on it again to see the actual colors. I don’t know why all the smaller pictures are all washed out and it’s too late to call Randy.
Hey, Check This Out
Anyone seen the Crowder DVD? Those pictures look familiar? As most of you know, I had the amazing opportunity to be on a great tour and push a button on a camera a few times. Mr. Crowder and the fine folks at Sixsteps Records thought the pictures I took were decent enough to use six of them to put on the DVD artwork. In fact every picture in the artwork is a result of me pushing that button. Pretty cool huh? It’s exciting to me anyway.
And on top of it, this is the first time that any of my pictures have been “published” to anything so that’s pretty cool. Also I heard that another picture that I took on that tour will soon be on the cover of a certain magazine, but I don’t know details yet. I’ll be sure to let you all know though.
Anyway. Thanks David and friends for making my first publication a fun one.
