The Instagram Theory
I’m working on this theory in my head, that really has basis for anything, or even really any merit, but here goes.
I think you can tell a lot about a person and what they love based on their Instagram photos. I know, shocker right? People take pictures of things they like and it’s somehow a massive window into their personality. Call me Dr. Freud. Seriously though. Above are four different Instagram feeds that I follow…. Well, one is mine and there are three that I follow.
Top Right: I’d guess traveling, reading, somewhat healthy guitar player.
Bottom Left: Family person who loves the holidays and nature.
Bottom Right: They have this for one reason. To capture moments with their family.
Pretty interesting isn’t it?
So here’s my thoughts. This photo-technology (like most recent social networking technology) has allowed us a window into people’s living rooms. This is what they are hanging on their walls. This is the stuff that is important to them. The stuff they find beauty in. Maybe one stream is only different plates of food. Maybe it’s all only pictures on themselves. Maybe it’s groups of friends. Maybe it’s photos of their cat dressed up in different costumes. Who know’s. It’s amazing how much you can learn about a person just based on the photos they take.
Anyone else noticed this or am I the only weirdo paying attention to people’s photo habits? And while we’re at it, leave your Instagram name in the comments so we can all see what you’re into.
Fun With Photos
I’m playing with some different photo techniques today. You know, to make it look like stuff I can automatically do on my phone. Here’s a couple that I think turned out kinda cool. One of these days I’ll have a real live photography website so I can put all these on there, but for now, let me know what you think.
My Week In Video
So a couple weeks ago, I spent the week with One Republic and made some videos and took some pictures. This is one thing that came from that week. Kinda cool to see.
I don’t feel very good right now, so you can sense my lack of enthusiasm. Broken rib and pain medication is not as awesome as it sounds.
Gettin Our Zoo On
Today we took the morning and went to the Nashville Zoo. I’ve been gone every weekend since January and I’m about to be gone for another pretty good stretch so we wanted to make sure that we took today and made it awesome.
The Zoo, Ice Cream and now a Kings game on TV. Talk about a decent Sunday. What’d you do today?
My Week
So, I had a blast out with the One Republic boys this week. Really good people and a really good camp to get to know. They are some great guys and everyone involved was great to work with.
I was really out doing video stuff and a few other things, but I’m not typically at a show where I don’t take some pictures. These are a few of my favorites from the week.
A Few Of My Favorites
So, obviously I’ve been a little slammed for the past few weeks gearing up for The Roadshow, then heading out on it, so I’ve been a little absent from this place. Well, that’s not really changing now, but I did want to share with you a couple of my favorite photos from the first week of the tour. I’ll try to be more diligent about posting on here, but if you’re wanting to see my daily posting, check out The Roadshow Blog since that’s where I’ll be spending most of my time for the next few weeks.
Here’s some of my favorites:
MercyMe’s Lovewell Live
So, I’ve decided to really put some focus on photography this tour. I don’t really know what that means, but one thing I think would be cool is to actually know what I’m doing when I’m taking pictures. I’ve had all sorts of photographers ask me different things about the concert photos I take and I’m tired of telling them, “I have no idea. I just point the camera and push the button when it looks good.”. I even thought about getting some new lenses before this tour, but then realized how much they cost so I changed my mind. The cool thing is that Jim has a really nice camera and awesome lenses so he’s letting me play around.
At this point I can still only say that I pointed Jim’s camera at things and pushed the button when it looked cool, but I’m learning and I’m even going to start writing things down, like settings and F stops and all that.
One thing I’m not sure on is the editing process though. What do you guys think of these? Too “scratchy”? Is that ‘so 2009′? It was late last night when I was editing these so I’m not sure my “arty judgement” was all that great. But this morning I think they still look kinda cool. What do you think? Is a clear picture better than a “roughed up” one? I suppose I could do both.
Anyway, if you guys are cool with it, I might throw some stuff on here during the tour and see what you think. I doubt I’ll do pictures from every show on here so make sure to check out MercyMe’s page too where I’ll most likely be putting pictures up from every show. Appleton, WI is today. Let’s see what happens.
10th Anniversary
We had an amazing time this past week. It was sort of a whirlwind East Coast roadtrip and was exactly what we needed. I can’t believe it’s been ten years since Kristin and I got married. It’s been too long since we have been alone for this amount of time.
We left Monday morning and drove to Raleigh to meet up with the Renstroms. The next day we drove to Washington DC and hung out there for the rest of the day. The next morning we drove up to New York and stayed there for two nights. I don’t know if I’ve ever walked so much in four days, but I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Here’s a couple of my favorite pictures. My camera is in the shop so these are all from my phone.
