Morgan Freeman – Career Killer?

I used to work with these two guys. One guy I was friends with and typically to pass the time during the day we would come up with some sort of “debate” to discuss. Even if we saw eye-to-eye on the specific subject one of us would take a ‘side’ and we’d spend the day thinking on that particular subject and debating both sides of the issue. Environmentalism, Politics, Business, Music. Anything was fair game because the debate passed the time, kept us thinking and quite honestly made the day go by faster. The second guy I worked with always tried to jump in on the discussions, and we’d typically let him. He could speak his mind and try to convince us why at least one of us should agree with him. Typically we’d include him and try to see his view on thing until he came up with the ‘Morgan Freeman Career Killer’ discussion.
Here was his theory. And this was his exact wording.
“Once an actor or actress is in a movie with Morgan Freeman, their career is over from that point on.”
What?! That’s not even remotely a valid way to start a debate. Not to mention the complete joke that that statement even is. Now, keep in mind that this was roughly around 2002-2003. And if I were to look at movies that were made in 2002-2003 and took all the actors in those movies and cross checked to see if any of those successful actors had ever been in a film with Morgan Freeman, there’s argument that it would completely kill the discussion even now. But really my argument came down to one person. Brad Pitt. Seven? Morgan Freeman. Brilliant movie, and I think Brad went on to have a couple of decent movies after Seven came out. Are you kidding me?
He tried for a while to keep the “discussion” alive by saying that none of Brad Pitts movies had done well (or were any good) after Seven and that his career was “basically over”. And he also tried to throw in that Morgan Freeman wasn’t necessarily the problem, because he was a good actor in good movies.
I’m pretty sure I ended up leaving early that day.
Anyone else heard of this completely asinine theory?
Netflix
I’m not sure why it took this long, but Kristin and I have decided to give Netflix a shot. It could have been that we just don’t watch that much stuff, or maybe we didn’t rent that much stuff, but now we’re in.
See, we have different movie tastes and sometimes we’re looking for things at the local Blockbuster that they just don’t have. I’d heard friends talking about Netflix and how awesome it was and all that for years, but never really thought about it. In fact, the clincher for me was when we were looking for a movie called Gymkata and we couldn’t find it anywhere. We were talking about it and I wondered if the great Netflix had it. Bam. There it was. Along with all sorts of weird documentaries that we’ve wanted to see like Food Inc and Darius Goes West. It’s like Christmas.
So we are officially Netflixers. The only problem? We got some movies on Tuesday and they are still sitting in the envelope on my desk… un-opened… Wonder if we’ll ever have time to watch these things.
Recommend me some Netflix movies. What’cha got?
Stats Suck Sunday – In Bullet Points
- Today we are visiting a new church, not because we want to leave our church but, because we were invited to a friends church.
- Today is Blue’s last baseball game. It’s the Championship game against the Yankee’s with the freak coach. Last time Blue’s team played them he got mad and threw his glove. They are five and six year olds.
- I’ve noticed some new links here, and I am bad about adding people. If you link to me and I don’t link to you, let me know and I will change that.
- We watched the movie August Rush last night. I liked it. Anyone else seen it?
- This made me laugh last night.
- Both Kristin and I explicitly remember her locking the front door last night before bed. This morning it was open when we woke up. If you are coming in out house to watch us sleep, stop it. It’s creepy
So, this is Stats Suck Sunday. Welcome to it. This is the place to come with little expectation of anything for the day. This is also a place where you can link to the most random things you want. Wanted to blog about a picture of your goldfish? Today’s the day. I know most of this makes no sense but it doesn’t need to. Happy Sunday. What random things are you blogging today?
Prince Caspian
Blue and I went to see Prince Caspian today. He was pretty excited to see it, and after all the talk I was looking forward to checking it out. So far I have heard all the different reviews. Some loved it. Some hated it. Some thought it was entertaining, and I think I fall in this camp. I didn’t walk out of the theatre blown away by it’s greatness, but I didn’t feel like I wasted my seven bucks either.
Now, if your looking for a thorough movie review, you won’t find it here. Pretty much every one of my movie reviews will end with something like this. ”If you want to see it, go for it. If not, don’t. It’s a movie.” I was entertained for a couple hours. I got to hang out with Blue and eat some Berry Mike And Ikes and watch some buffalo men and cheetahs crash into things and fight, so that was cool. Oh yeah, and I’ve had this song stuck in my head all day.
I’ve been going back and forth about saying “Happy Memorial Day”, but for some reason the words “happy” and “memorial” don’t seem to fit. So either way, I hope you had a good day off.
