‘When The World Ends’

So, Barry might make fun of me for this. Probably call me a dirty hippie or something, but there’s no denying how amazingly these two guys can make their guitars talk. I’m an unashamed Dave Matthews fan for sure, but I’m more of a fan of his acoustic stuff, especially when it’s just him and Tim Reynolds. Mind blowing. I’d love to be able to pull off half the stuff he does with his guitar and still have the ability to sing.

Any Dave Matthews fans out there?

Patty Griffin – Tonight At 7

patty_griffin_broadcast

So check it out.  Tonight at 7PM (Central Time) I will be in the studio with Patty Griffin for a short, live performance and question and answer time.

What?  Patty Griffin?  Hanging out in her studio?  I’m not really sure how I end up in situations like this, but I’m cool with it for sure.  Now, I’d be lying if I said that I was the biggest Patty Griffin fan in the world, but the stuff that I have heard from her blows me away and I’d say I’m a fan, which makes tonight even cooler.  That, and the respect she has from any musician I talk to is amazing.

So that’s the deal.  Tonight at 7, we’ll be broadcasting her hanging out in the studio, answering some questions and playing some songs on PattyGriffin.com

Closet Hip Hop Fan

I’m a closet hip-hop fan.  No, seriously.  I love it.  I like the ‘swagger’.  I like the beats.  I like the way it makes your head lean back and forth.  I like it all.  Well, okay, I might not like it all, because I don’t like the fact that 90% of good hip-hop can’t be played in the car while my kids are there, but other than that it’s pretty awesome.

Now if you were to ask anyone around me what ‘my music’ was, it most definitely wouldn’t be hip-hop.  I mean let’s face it, I don’t even really know if there’s supposed to be a hyphen between the hip and the hop.  Most likely there’s not, but I’m geeky enough to put it there…. definitely not very hip-hop of me.

But that’s what’s awesome about music.  There is not right and wrong.  There’s no ‘my opinion is better than your opinion’.  You might hate hip-hop and I’m guessing most of you didn’t even watch the whole video, and that’s okay.  Most likely what’s in your car right now isn’t something that I’d listen to.

And a quick side note, if you did stick around for the video, how ridiculous is that stage setup and video in behind him?

So here’s my question for you.  What are you a closet fan of?  Horror movies?  Opera?  Romance Novels?  There’s something you’re afraid to say you love, and we want to hear it.

Ready?  Go.

*PS – I have no idea what the deal is with the person behind Beyoncé at 4:19.

It Only Takes One

bad_apple

Broadcasting things live is a tricky thing.  There’s always this element of the ‘unknown’ and I think that’s what freaks some people out.  I think that’s what causes people to shy away from it and decide to not do it.  There’s also this element of making yourself subject to the public in real time.  Where all you can do is react to people and what the decide to do.  I think this freaks people out too.

I don’t know how many of you showed up to Jonny Diaz’s Live Chat last night, but if you did you noticed the “one chatter”.  You know the one.  The fifteen year old hiding in his mom’s basement typing the most offensive things he his middle school brain can think of to try to get a reaction from the rest of the chatters.  Now, most of you know, this stuff happens.  If you’ve ever been on any sort of live chatting thing, there’s always some scholar that throws out obscenities to try to get a reaction and it’s pretty easy to ban them from the chat.  However, last night was a little different.

Due to some technical issues beyond my control and the flippant attitude for customer service expressed by Ustream I was somehow blocked out from being able to ban Mr. Offensive Chatter.  What should have taken two clicks of a mouse turned into three phone calls and creating a whole new account to simply log in and block him.  The problem?  It’s a game now and he’s trying to be more offensive.

So, ten minutes and several comments later, I was finally able to ban him from the chat with no help from Ustream or even an, “I’m sorry this happened.”  Not scoring points for Ustream.

So, bottom line.  If you were offended, annoyed, distracted, or whatever else last night during the chat I apologize.  Some time this stuff happens and we’ve got to just roll with it.  Next I’ll be writing an email to the co-founder of Ustream to ask him if he thinks I should switch back to Mogulus for our live broadcasts.

+ (While a frustrated post, I am still being positive… except for my attitude toward Ustream)

***If you are offended by a weirdos bare bottom, don’t watch. If you think a weirdos bare bottom is funny, push play.****

I woke up this morning with this video in my head. I’m sure some of you have seen this, but it’s always worth watching again. You’re welcome.

The Mobile Roadshow

roadshow_iphone

So, some of you might not care about this, but tonight was the first night that The Roadshow was not only broadcast online, but was also broadcast as a Feature on the Ustream iPhone App.  What’s that mean for you?  Well, nothing if you are watching it online, but for those of you tech nerds out there like me, this is pretty awesome.  See, now, for the rest of the tour, not only will the show be online, but it can also be found on the iPhone.  For nerds like me, this is awesome.

Tonight’s show was pretty amazing.  Twelve thousand five hundred people or so, singing as loud as they possibly can.  I’m continually blown away by the turn outs at these shows and the amazing crowds that bring it.  I love being a part of this.

Tomorrow is Vegas.  See you tomorrow night.
