Wii Fit… Or Do We?

We’ve never been “new year resolution” type of people.  In fact, I always go into each year thinking the same thing.  ”New Year’s Resolutions are stupid because no one ever keeps them and it’s just this annoying thing that boosts gym memberships and organic food purchasing.  I’m not going to make a “resolution” but I am going to focus on my health and finances a little more.”

Justification is funny.

So anyway.  For Christmas my parents got us this Wii Fit thing.  It basically helps you do workout stuff and tracks your weight and also tracks your “Wii Fit Age”.  I think I was 42 the first day I started.  I’m still not completely convinced that the age thing knows what it’s talking about, but it’s awesome to watch.  Well, it’s not awesome to watch when it goes up, but you know what I mean.

Anyway, so we’ve been doing this thing since Christmas except for the couple days we went to Gatlinburg and it seems to be going well.  Oddly enough the most weight I’ve lost and the lowest “age” I had was the day I got back from G-Burg (I call it G-Burg now because we spent so much time together.) and ate a bunch of crappy food including pancakes with the Scheuchzers.  Lots of pancakes.  That day I got all the way down to 3o years old.  Bam.

Anyway, today I’m 39 and up .02 pounds, but still down about 7 pounds as a whole.  Not sure what that means, but it’s beginning to look a little like a New Year’s Resolution…. or something.

So since, I never asked on here.  Did you guys rock any New Year’s Resolution things?  How are they going this first week into January?

Pray For This Guy

ac_hat

Ever since Aiden was born he has had, what sounded like, a rattle in his chest when he takes short breaths or plays too hard.  The doctors said it was something called ‘Tracheomalacia‘ and that it would go away the older he got.  Now that he’s four his doctors aren’t so sure that it will go away on it’s own and he may need surgery.  Basically what it means is that part of his throat isn’t as strong as it should be… I think.  The surgery would do something to remedy that, but I don’t know many of the details.  On top of that, he has also had a ‘sunken chest’ or Pectus Excavatum, which has the potential to affect his heart and lungs the older he gets.  Again, something the doctors hoped would go away but hasn’t.  And again, on top of that (as if that wasn’t enough) the doctors noticed a heart murmur that they are concerned about and we need to get looked at pretty quickly.  This could all be because of his chest or could possibly be something else.

Last week Aiden had some x-rays done to make sure his chest wasn’t pushing too much on his lungs and tomorrow we have an appointment at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital for an echocardiogram to make sure that his heart murmur isn’t being created by his chest or if it is something completely different.  I’m not sure the next steps that would need to be taken if there is an issue with his heart, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.  We’re pretty convinced everything will be okay but would envy your prayers for this little guy.

Thanks so much and we will keep you all posted.

Biggest Loser Workout

nbc-biggest-loser-logo

So, Kristin and I have decided to try out this Biggest Loser Workout video thing for six weeks.  It was more Kristin deciding it when she bought it and brought it home and said, “I think we should try out this Biggest Loser Workout video thing for six weeks.”, but I have decided to make a go at it with her.  I’m not going to lie.  It’s really hard.

Here’s how it works.  The first three weeks you alternate between ‘Workout One’ and ‘Workout Three’, then week four, five and six, alternating between “Workout Two’ and ‘Workout Four’.  We just finished our first week and I’m still not so sure I’m down.

You know how they say that the more you work out the better you feel?  I’m still waiting for that.  We did, however, decide to take the weekends off, you know, for recovery time, so today is really nice.

Anyway, week one is down, I’m still alive and I do feel less tired so that it nice.  Five more weeks and I’ll be all in shape and junk.  It’s really fun to be doing this with Kristin so we can keep each other motivated.  Otherwise I would have returned the DVD and bought some burritos instead.

Any other workout video peeps out there?  Don’t be shy.

A Gallon A Day

So, I’ve decided to start drinking a gallon of water a day.  I know it might not sound like a lot to some people, but I think it’s a lot.  I mean, why would anyone drink a gallon of anything a day?  I can’t imagine sitting down with a gallon jug of water and looking at it as if you had to finish it.  Although, after doing some math it doesn’t seem like it will be that hard.

If I drink eight of the sixteen ounce water bottles in a day that’s a gallon and that doesn’t seem like that big of a deal.  I’m sure I’ve done that before, but I’m making a conscious effort to do it every day.  That’s going to be the tricky part.

How much water do you drink a day?
