2010 Dove Awards

Well, it was a long night for sure, but I had a great time. Bart and Natalie did a great job hosting, the performances were great, the ‘comedian’ was…. well… the rest of it was good. My job was to basically hang out with Bart and Natalie and take pictures with my phone or camera. So that’s what I did. I like to call it documenting. All in all it was a great night. I’m glad Kristin was able to be there and come back afterward and hang out with some of the folks I work with. I still am taken back a little when I think about what I do for a living, but it’s a fun ride and as long as things keep popping up, I’ll keep saying yes.

The Doves

Well, I wasn’t able to find anything ‘fancy’ to wear, so I’ll be going with the standby, dress-up clothes.  Black jeans, t-shirt and jacket.  I figure I’ll go with jacket instead of hoodie for this occasion.

Seriously though.  Tonight is the Dove Awards and even though I’ll be ‘working’ the whole night it will be cool to see.  And when you see the word ‘working’, please read “backstage taking pictures and hanging out with Bart & Natalie”.  I’m not sure how much of the actual show I will get to see, but it will still be fun to be there.  Kristin will also be there, but she will be in the seats hanging out with Bart’s wife because, for obvious reasons, she will also have an empty seat next to her as well.

This is the third year I’ve been involved in some capacity, but I have a feeling tonight’s show is going to be pretty cool.  It’s awesome to see SkörInc clients running the show. With performances by Amy Grant, MercyMe and Natalie Grant, and also Bart and Natalie hosting it, it’s going to be a busy night in that respect, but really more busy them than me.  I just get to document it.

So, I’ve got a few hours till I’m heading over there, then after the show it’s off to Iowa for the last week of the tour.  It’s been a crazy couple months years, and I’m ready for a little normalcy, but I’m looking forward to enjoying tonight and having fun with everyone.  Who else is going?  Watching on TV?

Vince And Bart

I took this picture about thirty minutes ago.  Vince Gill is in the studio with Bart today recording some vocals for Bart’s upcoming hymns record.  From what I can tell Vince is a pretty big deal.  He’s won some awards, hosted some shows, and a bunch of other stuff and seems like a great guy.  Super nice.

Any Vince Gill fans out there?  Kat, I made sure to tell him to say “hi” to Amy for you.

We just finished lunch and now it’s time for Bart to sing.

Hearing The Same Song

hymns_1_small.jpg
I listened to Bart sing the same song over and over again for about five hours yesterday. He’s in town recording, and well, that’s how you record. You do it over and over…. and over… and over again.

Although the place that we were at listening to this same song over and over was pretty amazing. I had heard of this place before but never been. It’s got a cool creepy castle vibe, but also a pretty cool place to hang out. We even watched a guy try to drink a gallon of chocolate milk. It didn’t work.

I am going back out there tomorrow to take some more pictures and hopefully some video and will share with you what I can. Have a great morning.

“Positive Post Tuesday”

bart.jpgMost of you already know who this guy is, and most of you have probably heard nice things about him already, but this week I chose Bart Millard to talk about for “Positive Post Tuesday”. I think a lot of times guys like this get so much recognition in one aspect of their life, but it’s more of a fan’s praise than it is for them as a real person. This guy is literally one of the nicest guys in the industry.

I have had the opportunity to work with Bart, and the rest of the MercyMe family a couple different times and in different roles, most recently working with them on their blog and online presence. The more I work with these guys the more I realize how “normal” and genuine they are. There is nothing “rockstar” about Bart, that I have ever seen. He is the same to the guys in the band as he is to the fans asking for autographs.

A couple weeks back the guys had a show in Nashville and I got the idea to stream video on to their blog from the show and mentioned it without knowing if the venue even had internet. I had no way to really know how to do any of it until I was at the venue testing it out. I got there early and sat down with Bart to try to figure out how to make it work. He had some great ideas, got the rest of the crew involved and it turned out to work really well. The part that blew me away was the next day, when Bart called on the way to his family vacation just to tell me that he thought it went great, was appreciative, and thought it was a great idea.

I know it probably doesn’t sound like a big deal, but to me that shows Bart’s personality and thought of other people. Sure he’s written (and owns) one of the biggest songs in Christian music history, and has several people working with him and under him as a company. Sure he’s on vacation with his family after a tour that lasted three months, but he wanted to call and encourage me in something that I took a chance on. To me Bart is a legit lover of God and people and it’s evident in the way he lives his life. In an industry where competition for attention and status runs about as high as it can, it’s nice to have someone at the top continue to be such a nice guy. To me that’s refreshing.

So now it’s your turn. Remember how to do this? Write a post building someone up. Something positive about them. Then come back here and fill out this box below. Ready? Go.
