MYNH – Sean Hayes
Alright folks, I heard this guy last night and the gritty grooves on this record are pretty amazing. This isn’t the song I heard but I downloaded the record and every song is pretty great. Anyway, check out Sean Hayes, and let me know what music you’re listening to that I’ve never heard.
A Few Of My Favorites
So, obviously I’ve been a little slammed for the past few weeks gearing up for The Roadshow, then heading out on it, so I’ve been a little absent from this place. Well, that’s not really changing now, but I did want to share with you a couple of my favorite photos from the first week of the tour. I’ll try to be more diligent about posting on here, but if you’re wanting to see my daily posting, check out The Roadshow Blog since that’s where I’ll be spending most of my time for the next few weeks.
Here’s some of my favorites:
Six
This amazing human turns six today. Aiden is one of those kids that you look at and can’t help but think, ‘What’s he going to do with his life?’. He’s unbelievably creative, sensitive, thoughtful, quiet and…. moody. When he was a baby we said he was “calm like a bomb” because he was so mellow until you hit that intense button on him. I can’t wait to see what life has in store for him.
Today we brought him cupcakes to school and had lunch with him and tonight we’re braving Chuck E. Cheese’s. Cardboard pizza and ski ball. We must love this kid.
Anyway, a huge ‘Happy Birthday’ to our middle.
MYNH – Joshua James
I haven’t done one of these in a while, but it’s about time don’t you think? Now I’m guessing some of you have heard of this guy, but I got this guys record the other day and I haven’t been able to turn it off. I love the vocals, I love the simplicity, and you all know I’m a sucker for a good singer-songwtriter. So here you go. Ladies and Gentlemen Joshua James.
And while we’re here, it’s been a long time since I’ve asked what you guys are listening to, so let’s hear it. What artists are you listening to that I’ve never heard?
Do What You Want
This whole internet thing has been around for a while. And the past few years I’ve seen it’s really take off. I have an eye for these things you see. Seriously though. With this whole blogging, Twitter, Facebook, Social Media boom, I’ve noticed more and more “experts” popping up. Experts that tell you how to become the best Social Networker in the world, or become the best at Twitter. Really?! Become the best at something called “Twitter”? I don’t know about you, but I’m a little sick of the advise. I’m sick of being told how I should do something to widen my digital footprint. You?
“But Brody, that’s what you do for a living right? Social Media strategy?”
No.
Some people might think I’m an “advise guy” or “Social Networking person” and as uncomfortable as that makes me, I can see where they are coming from. I know more about certain things than they do. Fair enough. What I do is passionately encourage people to be themselves online. If you’re not a “catchy title” person. Don’t force yourself to write catchy titles. If you like video blogging over typing, grab your flip and go to town. If you want to focus on Facebook, do it. If you’re the quick one liner type, rock Twitter. Who cares how you do what you do. Just do what you want and be yourself.
“But Expert A. says in order to get more followers I need to do x.”
Okay. Well, if you are doing it for more followers than what happens when those followers find out that you tricked them? What happens when being yourself sneaks out and you offend the masses?
Now, I’m sure there’s ‘advise’ on this blog. Times where I’ve tried to sound like I know what I’m talking about and again, I might know more about something than other people. There’s a thousand other people out there that know more than me about different things. That’s what makes the internet fun right? See, I look at it like this. I’d never walk into your living room and start telling you how to decorate to maximize space. I’d never say that the color you decided to paint the walls wasn’t accommodating to the general public. Or that your carpet was ugly. I’d never say that your ‘style’ wasn’t good enough for people. I look at blogging, and Social Networking the same way. Do what you like. Who cares if it’s not “right”.
This morning I read a blog post by Don Miller briefly touching on this and I couldn’t agree more with him. This internet is a huge place and no one needs to fit into a perfect box to ensure readership. Sure, learn from people. Take what they say and apply it to YOU. I’m never going to be Seth Godin, but you know what? He’s never going to be me.
Nine Ways To Live A Little
The last few days have been a little uninspired. Not in a horrible way. Just in an “I’m really busy and don’t have time to be inspired” kind of way. Today I was working upstairs in my office and I heard Kristin and Cooper singing the ABC’s and it made me all emotional, then I heard about Aiden being invited to a roller skating party tomorrow and that did.
Then I saw this video…. and loved it.
That’s all.
Stats Suck Sunday – In Bullet Points
Man, it’s been a long time since I’ve done one of these. Seems like since Twitter showed up, these ‘bullet point lists’ have just become Tweets. The problem though, is that I liked doing these and liked reading them. For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, this is what Stats Suck Sunday is. It’s a random list of things that are on my mind that occupy this blog on Sundays. We do it on Sunday because no one really reads blogs on Sunday. Most likely people aren’t at work trying to avoid total boredom. Anyway, here we go. For those that are interested leave your bullet points in the comments and we’ll discuss each other’s random thoughts. Sounds amazing right?
- Snow-pocalypse is officially in effect. Kristin just ran to the grocery store to buy things that we are actually out of and I’m expecting to hear how stripped the shelves are of all basic needs.
- Working on a brand spakin’ new Roadshow website. We’ll Jordan is working on it. I’m just being annoying at this point.
- Most of these are going to be work related because there’s so much going on this week.
- Tomorrow we are launching a couple different sites, and I think we’ll have about 5 or 6 total this next week or so.
- I got an iPad last week and I’ve lost my phone three times since. I’m not sure they are connected.
- Could my right foot be any colder?
- I’m happy for my Texan friends that are playing in the snow today. Hopefully it makes living in Texas a little less like living in Texas for them.
- Yes, that was a direct slam on Texas as a locational option of living.
- My dog has the weakest bladder of anything I have ever seen.
- Sponge Bob is hands-down the most annoying thing on the planet.
- My magic fingerless gloves haven’t show any signs of magical ability yet. But when they do… look out.
Wii Fit… Or Do We?
We’ve never been “new year resolution” type of people. In fact, I always go into each year thinking the same thing. ”New Year’s Resolutions are stupid because no one ever keeps them and it’s just this annoying thing that boosts gym memberships and organic food purchasing. I’m not going to make a “resolution” but I am going to focus on my health and finances a little more.”
Justification is funny.
So anyway. For Christmas my parents got us this Wii Fit thing. It basically helps you do workout stuff and tracks your weight and also tracks your “Wii Fit Age”. I think I was 42 the first day I started. I’m still not completely convinced that the age thing knows what it’s talking about, but it’s awesome to watch. Well, it’s not awesome to watch when it goes up, but you know what I mean.
Anyway, so we’ve been doing this thing since Christmas except for the couple days we went to Gatlinburg and it seems to be going well. Oddly enough the most weight I’ve lost and the lowest “age” I had was the day I got back from G-Burg (I call it G-Burg now because we spent so much time together.) and ate a bunch of crappy food including pancakes with the Scheuchzers. Lots of pancakes. That day I got all the way down to 3o years old. Bam.
Anyway, today I’m 39 and up .02 pounds, but still down about 7 pounds as a whole. Not sure what that means, but it’s beginning to look a little like a New Year’s Resolution…. or something.
So since, I never asked on here. Did you guys rock any New Year’s Resolution things? How are they going this first week into January?
Vinyl
When Kristin and I first got married we had a huge record player thing. It was like a piece of furniture that opened up and inside was a record player and some speakers. It was pretty awesome. Then we moved and had no place for it. I think we gave it to Kyle or something. Then we got rid of a bunch of records because we had no need for them. We did hang on to a couple just to have though.
Well this Christmas, Kristin got me this amazing record player that I can hook to my computer and not only play records but I can also import them into my iTunes. Total geeky amazing, I know. She also got me a Radiohead’s “In Rainbows” and Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs” to go with it. Yep, awesome.
So now I’ve decided that 2011 will be the year of vinyl. I’ll still get ‘regular’ music on iTunes but those special records that I need to have forever will be on vinyl. I’m pretty excited to start tracking some of these down.
So let’s hear it. What should be some of my first purchases? Anything that I need to have on vinyl?
