Fun With Photos

I’m playing with some different photo techniques today.  You know, to make it look like stuff I can automatically do on my phone.  Here’s a couple that I think turned out kinda cool.  One of these days I’ll have a real live photography website so I can put all these on there, but for now, let me know what you think.

Wii Fit… Or Do We?

We’ve never been “new year resolution” type of people.  In fact, I always go into each year thinking the same thing.  ”New Year’s Resolutions are stupid because no one ever keeps them and it’s just this annoying thing that boosts gym memberships and organic food purchasing.  I’m not going to make a “resolution” but I am going to focus on my health and finances a little more.”

Justification is funny.

So anyway.  For Christmas my parents got us this Wii Fit thing.  It basically helps you do workout stuff and tracks your weight and also tracks your “Wii Fit Age”.  I think I was 42 the first day I started.  I’m still not completely convinced that the age thing knows what it’s talking about, but it’s awesome to watch.  Well, it’s not awesome to watch when it goes up, but you know what I mean.

Anyway, so we’ve been doing this thing since Christmas except for the couple days we went to Gatlinburg and it seems to be going well.  Oddly enough the most weight I’ve lost and the lowest “age” I had was the day I got back from G-Burg (I call it G-Burg now because we spent so much time together.) and ate a bunch of crappy food including pancakes with the Scheuchzers.  Lots of pancakes.  That day I got all the way down to 3o years old.  Bam.

Anyway, today I’m 39 and up .02 pounds, but still down about 7 pounds as a whole.  Not sure what that means, but it’s beginning to look a little like a New Year’s Resolution…. or something.

So since, I never asked on here.  Did you guys rock any New Year’s Resolution things?  How are they going this first week into January?

I Can See

glasses

Hey, I forgot.  So, I also got glasses this week so now I can see across the room.  The other day there was a basketball game on and I knew that I couldn’t see it.  I borrowed Kyle’s glasses for a second and it was like I was watching a 3D movie.  All the sudden I could see details on things I didn’t even know were across the room.  So I hit up a Lens Crafters the other day and a couple hours later this is what I came out with.  I’m still getting used to the whole “things on my face”, but being able to see is kind of awesome.  And no, I will not be wearing contacts.  The thought of sticking my finger in my eye every day does not appeal to me.

So what do we think?  You think they work?  I hope so because I’m stuck with them.

Full Court?

basketball_game

About six years ago I had a group of guys that would get together every week or so and play basketball.  We’d sometimes to a full court thing, sometimes half depending on the number of guys that showed up.  It was never really an organized thing, but it was really fun when a bunch of guys showed up and we could make it a real game.  We’d play for a few hours and then all hang out or grab dinner or something after.  Like I said.  That was about six years ago.

Well last night I got a text from my buddy Josh letting me know that a group of guys were getting together to play.  I’ve been wanting to start playing again ever since we have moved here but haven’t found out where people were playing.  So last night I decided to give it a shot.

Now it’s been literally about four years since I have even tried to play an organized game of basketball and I get there only to find out that this is full-court, five on five, real deal basketball.  With guys that are used to doing this every week.  And me without my oxygen tank.  Two straight hours, five games, more running than I have done in years, more jumping than I have done in years, more running into sweaty men than I have done in years, and today I can barely walk.

I had a great time though and can’t wait till next week.  I just hope I get the feeling back in the bottoms of my feet by then.  Turns out taking six years off of doing something like that can really make it hard to get back into it.

What’s something you used to love to do, but haven’t done in years?  What’s stopped you from doing it?

Allergies, Swedish Fish And Jackie P.

Row 18, Seat A.  That’s the window seat in the back of the plane I am on right now.  I’m next to the bathroom and a flight attendant named Jackie P.  She seems nice.  Her name is on her shirt and she’s reading “The Color Purple”.  I bet she likes Oprah.

I landed in Charlotte on the way to Ohio and was told that my flight was delayed an hour.  Moments after I was told that, sitting there with my computer and phone plugged in attempting to find some sort of internet my allergies decided to show up.  I have a weird nose, and it’s probably the origin of my aversion to people touching my nose, but it bleeds really easily.  Or, sometimes, for no reason at all.  Which is really neat when you are on the phone, and your computer and everything is plugged in.

There’s nothing quite like packing up everything as fast as you can while blood is dripping down your face all over your shirt in the middle of an airport terminal.  Or being the guy that now has everything packed up and is running around looking for a bathroom with blood all over his face and hands and shirt and pants.  Seriously, there’s nothing like it.  I defy you to find something like it.  You can’t can you?  Because there truly is nothing like it.

After that fiasco, I decided to check out the snack shop area and picked up some awesome Swedish Fish, and a Tropical Citrus Vitamin Water.  Six dollars and forty-eight cents.  Neat.  Once I almost bought a turkey wrap from a refrigerated wall at an airport before I realized it was nine dollars.  Airport food hurts my heart sometimes.

Turns out my flight wasn’t delayed as much as once broadcast on the loud speaker.  By the time I got back to the gate, sat down and plugged in my computer again, an announcement from the speaker above me told me that my flight was now boarding.  I packed everything back up.

So here I am back in the corner of this plane, next to the bathroom and Jackie P. listening to the new Coldplay record and waiting for this plane to land in Akron, Ohio.  Pretty glamorous huh?
