Introducing Penny
So this is Penny. We planned on waiting a little while to get a new puppy, but we starting looking online for them and noticed this cool breed. We knew we wanted a Shepherd mix, but nothing was jumping out at us. Until yesterday when Kristin found an ad for four Shepherd mix puppies found in a barn and now currently at a “foster home” about 30 minutes away.
I called the number on the ad and the lady told me that the mom of these puppies was an English Bulldog and the dad was a German Shepherd. Immediately I thought those would be super funny looking adults and we probably should get one.
They said they had two boys and two girls. Three of them looked the exact same and there was one that looked more German Shepherd. Kristin has been needing some female companionship in the house for a while so we decided to go for a girl. Penny was the one that looked different than all the others, and looked like she’d be a good fit in the family. A couple hours later and all the sudden there’s a new member of the family.
I’ve never been super picky about breeds or anything like that, but since Luther was such an amazing dog and a Shepherd mix, how could we go wrong? And when it comes to Penny, with a face like this, how could we say no? So let’s hear it. What’s your favorite breed of dog out there? We’ve got ours.

I can see the English Bulldog in her face a little. She’s so cute. I wonder how tall she’ll end up being?
We have two Cairn Terriers (think Toto). One is strawberry blonde, and the other, who has a bit of West Highland Terrier (Westie) in him, is mostly white. We liked the breed for many reasons, including the fact that it comes from Scotland, and that they do not shed. Their hair has to be pulled out manually. So that’s a plus.
I’d love to have a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, but they are huge and our living room might not accommodate one.
So glad to see you have a new addition to your family. I’ve never really had a favorite breed, I love them all. I have always had mixed breeds or mutts as some would call them. I love the pedigrees too but I feel like the mutts need homes more often than the pedigrees do.
I like shepherd mix, we had a dog once that was a shepherd/chow mix. The dog we have now, Shelby, is a mix of wire hair terrior and a lab, or at least that what the vet thinks she is. My son found her roaming around the neighborhood and we think someone may have dropped her off so we never knew her mom or dad. Shelby will be 15 years old next month and we absolutely adore her.
Kristin is going to love having a female pup and I have a feeling that Penny is going to be very close and protective of her. All of my pups have been females and they were very protective of me.
Glad u guys found another to give love to!I grew up with boxers and now Steven and I have 2 that are a year old. Puppies are trouble and a whole bunch of fun wrapped into one! Enjoy ur three new boys Penny! Take good cars of them!
Oh my Gosh! She is so cute!!! I lost my dog in April and got me another one right away. It really helped me alot. Mine is a Chiuahua and shi tzu mix. He got me out of the funk I was in. IThe dog I lost was an Australian blue heeler. They are the best dogs. I know penny will love you guys. She got a wonderful family! I know Luther would be so happy for yall.
Labs are great!!! Our lab would let our kids do anything to her, and just lick them in response! She wasn’t a great guard dog, pretty much loved everyone she met, but she was the most amazing dog I have ever met! You’ll have to let me know if the new puppy helps you heal…it’s been about 6 weeks since we lost ours, and we can’t imagine replacing her yet…but maybe it’s what we need…who knows?
she is freaking cute! i like! can’t wait to come see her. i still miss luther but i’m sure she will be pretty cool. you did a good job with luth so she will be sweet too. to answer the question, dachshunds…. obviously.
Congrats on the new addition to your family! Penny is a perfect name!
My Bronson was a Bouvier des Flanders, and I will probably look for another one when I get back to my world. A friend introduced me to the Anatolian Shepherd…I’ve only been around a couple but they were so cool!
I always recommend getting a new pet very soon after losing one! You did the right thing.
Penny is adorable!
The breed I would like to have is called a McNab. (I like the ones with floppy ears.) They were bred here in Northern California from the Border Collie. Short hair, very smart, medium size, super playful and friendly… Maybe some day I’ll get one!
Right now, we have a Staffie mix. He’s not that smart, drools a lot, is destructive of anything he can get in his mouth, an escape artist like you’ve never seen, always getting into trouble… But he’s friendly and loves to play and take walks. I suppose he’ll do for now.

we’re hoping to get a newfoundland sometime soon. hooray!
She is adorable! Our favorite breed is the shih-tzu. Ours if full-bred, but that wasn’t a real big deal to us. The thing for us was allergies. We had to find a dog that didn’t aggravate them. Thank goodness he doesn’t, because he’s the best dog ever!
Black Labs! We had to leave ours in Idaho & it broke my heart. Best dog ever! Now we have mutts. One daughter has a hound-pitt bull mix that I really like and another daughter has a pitt bull & I don’t know what else mix. I’m thinking when all the kids move out getting one of those tiny ones you dress in doll clothes and carry in your purse.
we have a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.
Will never get another breed.
The best dog we have had.
hi i just bought what i was told to be a pure english bulldog ….but now looks like she is a english bulldog/shepard how big will she get can u tell me how she is
We have a English bulldog German Shepard mix. Mom was bulldog and dad was shepard. He is 75 pounds of energy and cuteness. He is also incredibly intelligent, sometimes too intelligent.
Such a cute picture, so happy to see something similar to what I just got, we have Max, a 6 wk Old mix from 2 pure mixes, Mommy is the English and Daddy is the German. He looks a lot like penny with more Tawny brown right now, but the german colors are coming in around the face and neck.
We live in Utah, I will like to keep up with your blog, to see how penny transforms, That is sort of why Max for Maximus Prime.LOL. Not sure what he will look like.
