On The Fence
It’s magical. It’s revolutionary. It will change the way I check my email. It’s all those things and more right? I’ll use it more than I’ll use my existing computer. It’s lighter than my laptop. I’ve heard all the arguments for me to run out and get an iPad. And don’t get me wrong. I want one for sure. But I’m still on the fence deciding if I need one.
I literally have been going back and forth with myself. Do I need it? Would I really use it enough to make it worth it? Do I go with the 64 gig if I do? 3G? See how this can mess with you?
Now, most of you know, I spend all sorts of time ‘online’. I’m always having to do something, most of which is possible to do from my phone, but not the easiest thing in the world. My question would be, is the iPad going to replace anything? It can’t replace my computer, it can’t replace my phone, it won’t replace my kids toys, but do I still need it?
Let’s hear it. Should I go get one?

If you find a sack of money on the ground later today, sure.
Need – I’m going with NO!!! Awesome – Heck YES!!!! If buying it keeps you from paying your bills – NO!!! Would everyone think you’re a Super Fly Guy – YES!!! Do you REALLY need to carry around something else – NO!!!! Have you ever played Chicktionary on it , it’s almost as addicting as WWF – Get it!!! You will LOVE it – Your kids will LOVE it – Your friends will want to touch it every time you have it around – YES!!!! Will it really make your life any easier – Probably NOT!!!!
I’m going with – Wait just a little longer and see what improvement the next version has!!!!
i think that you know you want one and are probably going to buy one anyway even if you don’t NEED it so if i were you i would just go buy one. if you don’t end up using it kristin can steal it.
WIN-WIN
I completely agree with you… Have you heard Donald Millers story about setting peoples metronome? Steve Jobs and Apple are masters at making us believe we must have this next device as if we will not be content without the iPad. Mr. Jobs has me fixated on the iPad and it’s a bit concerning if you consider who else maybe setting our metronomes.
On the other hand, I’m a designer and own a hosting company and a little voice in the back of my head says “you should just get one… never know what your site(s) and system are going to look like on this thing”
Its embarrassing to admit but I have this debate (in my head) a few times a day. In the end, I’m just trying to avoid consumerism and trying to spend my funds wisely. I don’t know.
Brody, you definitely don’t need it. Especially when you consider that when it comes to features, it’s not any better than an iPod touch besides the fact that it’s huge. Personally, if I had to carry around something that big, I’d want it to do and have a little [or a lot] more, especially if I’m spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on it. I’d wait until maybe the next model, when hopefully they’ll add more features like a camera maybe and heck, a USB port. As well as a decent OS that can handle multi-tasking, more like a computer.
Just saying (:
One word. Justification. If you can find something on it that makes your work more efficient that you can’t already do on you i-phone or your macbook, or if it is going to save you time, then it might be worth it. I wasn’t sold on it at first. Thinking it was for the Sharper Image-Rich guy and it sits on your coffee table, I didn’t think I needed one. And then PlanningCenterOnline.com released an app for the I-pad that turns it into a music stand w/a bluetooth footswitch. Eliminating the need for printing out PDFs, filing, un-filing, 2x a week. Not having to flip the page real fast. I’m kind of sold now….of course, I could try memorizing all the songs. Dang. Still on the fence.

and we will be happy for you.
also, you could get crowder to start using one in his live show.
Best device I have ever used. Not a giant iPod Touch. Get it. Nice!
My hubbie is getting one for me, himself and his friend. I support you getting one too!
