SSS – Five Mundane Things
This post, no doubt, will make me come across as a spoiled American, but that’s alright. I’ve been feeling more and more like a spoiled American lately, so there’s no harm in you thinking that too. Anyway, the other day I was driving and that stupid gas light turned on. You know the one that means you should have already gotten gas? So, I started thinking about how much I hate getting gas. I don’t know why, but for some reason I can’t stand it. Everything about it drives me nuts, and it seems like I’m always doing it.
So, I’m driving, looking at this gas light, thinking about how much I hate to get gas and I start thinking of the other mundane things that we all have to do at some point in our lives. (And I know they are different for everyone because I actually like mowing the lawn and I know people that hate it.) You know the stuff. The things you mumble under your breath when you’re doing, “I hate (fill in the blank)”.
Well, for your Sunday reading pleasure I’ve come up with a list of five, yes five, mundane things that I hate to do. Things that most people would make fun of me for hating to do and then they’d walk away calling me a spoiled American. Are you ready? Now, I fully expect you guys to buck up and let me know you’re things too, so here we go.
1: Getting gas (As stated above)
2: Entering my PIN number when I use my ATM card… (Especially gas pumps)
3: Picking up dog poop. (If I have to explain this, you’ve never owned a dog.)
4: Hanging Christmas lights. (I’m actually getting better at this one, but for some reason I always choose the coldest night of the year to decide to do this and more often than not the lights don’t work.)
5: Preparing to paint. (You know, the taping off the windows and doors making sure nothing will be touched when I slap on way too much paint.)
So there it is folks. My top five mundane things I hate doing. And really 3,4, and 5 are just annoying, I don’t really hate them… but I’ll never waiver on my dislike for pumping gas.
Your turn. Ready? Go.

1. Picking up dog poop (having two dogs makes it twice the work)
2. Folding Laundry (I have no problem putting it in the washer and dryer, it’s the end result that I dislike)
3. Washing my vehicle
4. Doing my hair (I wish I had a stylist come every day to my house)
5. Brushing my teeth – don’t think I don’t. I definitely do 2x a day! but, when Im extremely tired and just want to hit the pillow, I find it annoying how I have to get my mouth cold and minty prior to that to feel clean.
I hate:
1. ironing
2. walking half a block to mailbox. Especially in the snow.
3. cleaning house.
4. doing step-work.
5. paying bills.
P.S. I am so ready for the RAWRS!!
1. Definitely getting gas.
2. Changing bedsheets. (Especially in the middle of the night when a kid has wet the bed.)
3. Shaving my legs.
4. Cleaning up dog accidents in the house.
5. Registering for anything online.
1.) Taking a shower, getting dressed, & doing my hair aka “getting ready”. Hated it since I was a kid.
2.) Cleaning house ( don’t hate it once I get going as much. It’s the gaining momentum that’s irritating.)
3.) Entering tour dates into websites. Tedious.
4.) Exercising. No matter what little tricks you use, it’s still boring.
5.) Grocery shopping. Takes so long because I am incapable of “just running in”.
Oh, and one more, 6.) Making phone calls.
1. Cleaning the house (especially the bathroom)
2. Getting gas
3. Dropping the kids off at school (those other parents need to learn how to DRIVE!)
4. Dishes
5. My daily meds routine (I hate it, but if it keeps me breathing I suppose I have no choice.)
Oh, oh. I have another one!!
1a. (ironing now becomes 1b.
I HATE SHAVING MY LEGS……………………………….
Wow. I don’t feel so bad now!
I, too hate getting ready each and every day! So, here goes:
1. Getting ready (hair, makeup…)
2. Hanging Up clothes! I don’t know why. But, I just absolutely loathe it.
3. Pumping gas and getting oil changes.
4. Grocery shopping/ cooking.
5. Cleaning kitty litter box. (Right up there w/ puppy poop scooping)
1. Ironing. I don’t buy clothes that need to be ironed. If my husband does, he has to iron it.
2. Exercising.
3. Loading the dishwasher. I don’t mind unloading and putting away – I have a thing about touching/smelling dirty dishes. I don’t hand wash dishes, either. Bleh!
4. Doing the full-blown getting ready – shower, shave, hair, makeup…it just takes too long no matter how fast I try to go.
5. Cooking. I love to bake, but cooking…we’re a house of picky eaters and it just doesn’t seem to be worth the effort most of the time.
Cleaning bathrooms (we have 3)
Shopping
Yard work
Filling out the name, mail and website thing when you leave comments on blogs.
Being forced to speak when in a Bible study or small group setting.
1. With you on the gas thing…
2. Ironing
3. packing lunch
4. getting the mail
5. cleaning the toilet
Here’s my list.
1. Grocery shopping
2. Going to the mall for anything, especially at Christmas time
3. Cooking
4. Cleaning the ceiling fans. It’s not so much the cleaning itself, it’s the stirring up the dust.
5. Getting ready/doing my hair & makeup. It just takes too much time.
As much as I hate picking up dog poop as well, I have found a simpler way to do it. There is no silly shovel or weird plastic bag handling involved.
(Let me first state I have two dachshunds so they obviously have small poops but this could still work for a big dog.)
I have a small bucket with plastic bag lining it and use those plastic salad tongs to pick up said poop. It sounds weird, gross, whatever, but I’m telling you, it works swimmingly.
The end.
Yeah, I forgot that cooking should be the number one thing I hate to do. I was reminded when my 11 year old said to me at 7:30 last night, “Shouldn’t you cook dinner or something?”
1) Cooking, I despise being stuck in the kitchen.
2) Changing kitty litter!
3) Cleaning in any shape form or fashion
4) Vomit clean up whether its the dogs, cat, kid, hubby or myself!
5) Getting up early. I’m a night owl and that early alarm just sucks!
Litter box.
Rolling out of bed.
Cleaning toilets.
Making phone calls.
Being at the mall.
(Yes, I just put litter box duty and mall shopping on the same list.)
1. Getting up early
2. Grocery shopping
3. Painting
4. Paying bills
5. Cleaning bathrooms
And I’ll add that I hate that RAWRS is not coming anywhere near me again this year.
