If You Like, Then You’ll Love

if_you_like

So, I had this idea tonight.  Growing up I listened to a lot of different music.  I listened to mainstream music and Christian music.  I listened to rap, I listened to rock, I listened to singer-songwriter acoustic stuff, I basically listened to everything that I could, and one thing always stood out to me, especially in the Christian music stores as I was browsing.  You know what I’m talking about don’t you?  Those big stickers on the front that said “If you like (insert mainstream, sinner artist), You’ll love (insert Christian, clean artist)”.  Remember that?  ”If you like Hootie And The Blowfish, You’ll love Third Day.”

Now, I don’t think that many marketing folks are still doing this, probably because it was made fun of so much, but I’ve seen this popping up online with something called “similar artists”.  Yeah it’s a recommendation process and I get that, but I’d like to take it a step further here on ‘…in case you were wondering.’.  Sound good?

Here’s how it’s going to work.  Every once in a while I will throw out an item.  It might be a band.  It might be a restaurant.  It might be a blog.  It might be a t-shirt company.  Who knows.  But I will throw out an item and say “If You like this, you’ll love…”.  This is where you come in.  You tell the readers your recommendation.  It can be funny, it can be serious.  It can really be anything you want that sort of relates to the thing we “like”.  Makes sense right?

Let’s start with something easy, shall we?  Let’s start with something we’re all accustomed to like a band, then we will get more advanced the further we go.  Now, what I am NOT asking for is “Christian” versions of these things.  I’m simply using that as an example of the game so it doesn’t have to be a “Christian / Non-Christian” thing at all.   Here goes.

If you like U2, you’ll love…………

Ready?  Go.

  1. Muse, Placebo, Killers, Snow Patrol.

    Is that how this works?

  2. OK, I’m not good at this game. I thought I listened to a good diversity of music, but not so much lately. The more I see what you all listen to, the older & out-of-touch I feel!

So, “you’ll love the comments others give”. Cuz I’m clueless! I took the funny way out. I think. :)

If you like U2… you should feel satisfaction listening to most modern worship music made now for quite a while…

Give me worship with a Black Crows sound?! (no hate towards U2 ’cause they are epic… especially the older stuff.)

    hyper static union?

  9. You might like “All That You Can’t Leave Behind” as the thoughts of it “Rattle and Hum” in your head like “The Unforgettable Fire” as you think about how to “Dismantle An Atomic Bomb” to stop a “War” in “October” from happening “Under A Blood Red Sky”. “Boy” that’s as many albums as I could “Pop” into this reply.

And yes all of the titles in quotes are U2 albums-but not all of them.

  10. The Quiet Man, irish stew & Lucky Charms.
