Where Does The Money Go?
What do you think? Accurate? I know it’s a little hard to read but Eric found me a bigger image so click on the picture if you want to see it up close. This chart is assuming that everyone makes $50,000 a year, which I know isn’t necessarily true, but I wonder if the ratios are close. So what do you think? I think it looks pretty close to what we spend, but then again Kristin handles all the money since I travel so much, so I really have no idea.
This might be the lamest blog post ever!

That doesn’t look like our “consumer unit.” But we are pretty much not the norm at this point. maybe someday we will be normal again.
Here you go.

Nope, I don’t think that’s us either. Cost of living is outrageous here & with a family of 9 we aren’t the norm.
I didn’t see an “iphone” section on that chart unless they were lumping it in with entertainment. Most of the country does use a cell phone right? I know that the 2 iPhones in my family run us about 5% of our monthly budget which definitely deserves some real estate up there!
I have no idea since my husband handles everything. I will say that having the kids in private school since they’ve been little has meant that we spend way more on education. My paycheck simply paid for their schooling, and that was pretty much it. Although, now that the school has closed, and they will go to public school, that will change. But, since we have to buy a new house in a better school district, I’m sure my pay will now go to that.
Seems a little off to me and towards the low side. Take the food for instance. I broke these down into a weekly number (52/yr)
Food at Home = $66/wk
I mean dang, we even grow a garden for “free” food, and we wouldn’t make it on $66 a week. And we are vegetarian so there is none of the much more pricey meat on the food at home bill.
Food away from home (eating out) = $51/week – really? We pride ourselves at being the cheapest “out to eaters” in the world. I can feed my family of four for $20 at a mexican food restaurant (including tip). If we just go get what we want it’s over $50 easily. And I don’t have eat me out of house and home kids either.
Vehicle payments = total taken to a monthly basis = $270. I don’t know many folks who only have a $270 car payment each month… (‘cept me, I’m cheap and both my cars are paid for!)
Seems a little skewed… just saying!+
This looks nothing like the percentages of my spending, but my life doesn’t really look like the “average consumer unit” presented in this chart.
