Trash Night
Growing up ‘Trash Night’ was on Thursday meaning that the trash trucks came early Friday morning. I was in charge of moving the trash can forward from the back yard to the curb. I frequently forgot to do that and more often than not woke up to the sound of the trash truck outside slamming around my neighbors trash cans and running outside in my boxers and a t-shirt hoping that it wasn’t too late.
Then I got married. Trash Night was on Wednesday or Thursday morning if you will. Kristin and I had a long gravel driveway so I never heard the Garbage truck but frequently woke up and leaving the driveway would notice that I had yet again forgotten to bring the can forward. Our second house, same thing. Long drive way, always forgetting. Third, we moved back to Thursdays, had a shorter driveway, but I still forgot more often than not.
Our fifth house was an apartment where the trash truck would come every morning to the end of the walkway and pick up the couple bags of trash that you had from the day before. Again, if you didn’t put it out the night before, chances are you’d miss it. Or at least I would.
So here we are at house number six, and while you think this post is clearly about me forgetting to bring the garbage can forward it’s not. While I still forget almost every week, it’s not about that. What I’m wondering is simply this. Does anyone have a trash night at the beginning of the week? I’ve never had one earlier than Wednesday and it’s kind of driving me nuts tonight. I mean, if everyone’s ‘Trash Night’ is later in the week, what are these guys doing at the beginning of the week. Surely there’s someone out there with a Monday Trash Night right? How about a Tuesday? Anoyone?
Let’s take a little ‘…in case you were wondering’ poll here. What night is your Trash Night?
Ready? Go.

It was Sunday night at my old place, but now it’s Tuesday night. And like you, I still forget most of the time too. +
Yep, you found one! We have to put the trash out on Monday nights. It was great when we had our small group meeting those nights because when we drove home all the neighbors had their trash out. Now that we are not meeting for the summer we have forgotten a few times! It is hard to remember!
I house sit for some friends when they’re out of the country and their trash night was easy to remember because I’d come home to everyone else in the neighborhood’s cans down at the curb…except for ours. HA!
I live in a condominium with dumpsters. We just dump our garbage bags in there and then the trucks come at some point and empty the dumpsters. When? Who knows. Who cares. We don’t have to worry about trash days. So I get this comment is pretty pointless. +
Well, Allison is correct. We are a Monday trash night. Since I’m running on the brain power of a snail I never can remember. Without our home group gatherings on Monday night I’m a helpless case… Sorry honey… + for the early week and a – for my limited short term memory.
I have a Wednesday trash night for Thursday pickup but have a Sunday Recycling night for first thing Monday morning. Same guy does both. I am lucky enough to have a 10 year old son who handles the trash but I still have to remind him.
Where we live now, it’s Wednesday mornings. It’s supposed to be my son’s job to put the can at the curb, but he’s gone for the summer so it’s back to my husband’s job now. The truck comes fairly early so if we miss it, too bad. It only comes once a week too. When I was a kid, it came twice a week.
In England, trash day was Friday. At first, we just piled the garbage bags to the curb and they took whatever was out there. Eventually, they moved to the “wheelie bin” system and everyone was issued an official garbage bin. Only, like everything else in the UK, it was “Barbie-sized.” Two of them would fit nicely in the average bin in the US. I called to complain because with the bin came the new rule that ONLY the contents that fit IN the bin would be picked up. I had two in diapers at the time and there was no way a family of six was going to make it on once weekly pickup. Our recycling bins would hold six soda cans on average, so they weren’t much help either.
We do recycle much more now and that’s always a good thing. Sometimes we go two or three weeks before we put the can out to the curb now!
Monday night for me. Was just thinking that I have concert band practice tomorrow night so I better get the bulk of it together tonight. Tomorrow me will be mad at today me because that ain’t happening.
Trash comes Tuesday mornings and Friday mornings here.
Early Tuesday and Friday morning.
Early Wednesday morning.
We lived in a subdivision in Nashville where they would come roll it out to the curb for you. Maybe we should move back.
Ours is on Tues night (Wed am) then again on Fri night (Sat am) we do forget a whole bunch but luckily he comes twice a week. Also, according to the Walton Sun (our local free newspaper) the inmates “sort” the trash @ the landfill to take out recyclable items (I would really like more documentation on that) so far the county asks that we sort and rinse recyclables and put them in county issued BLUE bags beside the regular trash this is great IF you remember to pick up some BLUE BAGS at their desginated locations
which – sometimes forget that too. Thanks 4 askin’ I love readin’ your blog….
Monday and Thursday morning.
That way if I forget I have another day to redeem myself.
Our trash night is Monday night. Doesn’t matter if it’s a holiday or not.
Trash day for us is Monday. The collection comes around mid-morning so we don’t have to put it out the night before. This is very good considering when we put the trash out on Sunday nights the raccoons tip the cans over and have at it forcing us to do a ‘clean up’ Monday mornings.
I am trying to figure out what is worse…you blogging about trash day, or me replying to it. Thanks Brody.
Our trash night is Sunday night. The trucks come first thing Monday morning. That means Sunday afternoons I have to clean out the fridge of all the things that no one ate that week. You know, the things that could really walk out on their own. I’m blessed in that my husband always remembers to put out the trash. I’m the one who forgets to clean out the fridge on Sundays. Then what do you do? Put the moldy food in the now empty can on Monday morning to sit in their smelling all week, or leave it in the fridge for another week. Such a dilema!
Wednesday night for us, and Ry rarely forgets.
My parents (you know where they live) have Sunday nights.
Sunday night trash night for me. Always interuppts my football watching in the fall.

monday night is recycling/green waste.
tuesday night is regular trash.
We carry (my husband, I mean) trash out the back door to the alley in which a dumpster resides. Dumpsty trucks come Tuesday & Friday, usually morning. On holidays? That dumpster sure can hold a lot. Then there’s the chipper guys that come thru about once a month. They are noisy. Silly subject, Brody, but always entertaining.

Our trash day is Friday and hubby puts the can on the curb every Thursday night. He has a pretty good track record because in all the years we have been married he has only missed one trash day.
Sunday Night and Wednesday Night.
We’re Tuesday Mornings!
Tuesday night!
Our latest post is trashy as well. Our trash night is whenever we want – we just walk the bags downstairs.
