So, according to this article Facebook has finally dethroned MySpace. But we all knew that was going to happen right? Now here’s the funny thing to me. The only two Social Networking sites that are shrinking are MySpace and AOL Community. Hmmm. MySpace and something I’ve never heard of. Now, I’m not saying that MySpace is going away forever. I mean, sure, they have millions of dollars and researching and all that, so I’m sure they will be around for a while, but it’s interesting that it’s actually shrinking. Going down. Loosing ground. I love it.
As someone who has never liked the cheap, trashy, Windows feel of MySpace I’m glad to see that there might be a time soon where people don’t ask me if having a MySpace can replace them having a ‘real’ website. In fact, according to that same article, the only thing that MySpace is “winning” at is showing more ads. Makes you really want to go there doesn’t it? I’m excited to see what MySpace pulls out to actually compete with the competition, but really I’m excited to begin to have to think less and less about it.
Now, I know what most of your answers are going to be, but is there anyone out there still using MySpace? Anyone who goes to it daily and says hi to all of your indie hip-hop artist and amateur porn star “friends”? I don’t.

You have a myspace? Huh. +
I do have a myspace. Up until only a few weeks ago I used to tell people I like MySpace better than Facebook, but since then, I’ve noticed I check Facebook a LOT more than MySpace. And since I’ve noticed, I’ve used MySpace less and less. It’s still, however, what I use as my “website” when I post comments on here. Perhaps I should start using my new Facebook url.
This too makes me very happy. I will be thrilled when bands and businesses realize that myspace does not replace a website and is a terrible tool to spread information and interact with a community.
Myspace should be called pornspace. I dropped my account years ago.
i deleted mine a week ago. had a wedding consult on saturday (destination wedding in grand cayman, we booked them, they’re paying for our trip/travel and our rates). they found us through my myspace account. came home, made a new myspace account.
Yes, I have a Myspace account. Made it in 7th grade. 4 years ago. I used to use it religiously, but now I hardly look at it. Facebook and Twitter and definitely better. Less complicated. Less stupid, for sure. The only reason why I still have my account is for bands. Unfortunately, a lot of bands don’t have a real website and assume Myspace is good enough. So the only way I can hear new songs from them or check out their tour dates is through Myspace. But I only actually talk [message or comment] to people once every few months.
what’s myspace?
Nope…was becoming a waste of time….Deleted my acct. about 3 months ago and the wife deleted hers about 2 weeks ago….Hail Twitter and Facebook
down with myspace!
ouch!
I feel like a loser now.
Honestly I was just on myspace like a few seconds ago and thought “Im gonna go see if Brody has anything new on his blog”
I go on it all the time but I never spend time saying hi to bands or porn stars?. whuh?
I actually talk to my friends from school.
Well, I have to go now, I just put up a new picture and i have to check if i have any new comments on it.
seriously is it that bad?
okay i lied my “amateur porn star friends,” Snickerdoodle and Rumpelstiltskin say “Holla!”
wait…. tagged is 13? does anyone actually use tagged, or are they just counting all the people with gullible friends who trust their email passwords to it?
i check in to myspace off and on, but mainly use it for those videos i want to share once but don’t really want hanging out in my youtube account. wish flipshare would expand the number of sites for auto-uploading.
The only reason I still have a myspace account if because of my teenage cousins. If I delete it I will loose contact with them. They have it rough & I never know when they are gonna drop me a line. I very rarely check it.
when you talk i wish that violence was alright.
I started with myspace a couple of years ago and was addicted for awhile. I opened a facebook last july, and kept both for about 6 months. I gave up myspace for good as a new year’s resolution.
I luv facebook, hate myspace.
I’m a little surprised by “the rest” of the list. No Flickr? No Babycenter.com? There are several others I can think of that appear to be insanely popular that aren’t on the list, when I haven’t heard of half the sites on the list.
Seriously, Gaia Online?!
MySpace is, and always has been, SUPER LAME. The only redeeming quality about the site was the ability to discover new music back in its heyday. MySpace is now trying to compete by trying to be like Facebook. Their interface and navigation still completely suck, though, as it has from the beginning of the site.
That said, I still have my MySpace accounts. But I haven’t even logged onto them in at least a month, if not longer.
yeah, i’m certainly using myspace less and less.
I get adds from people (just sayin, but usually “up and coming, comparable to…” Christian bands), and wonder “is this still your main attempt at attracting attention?”
Such is the curse of the information age. Life Changes Fast.
So would you say the new standard medium is a blog (say, um, a wordpress site..) over a bling and blang special effects flash integrated morph-tastic website?
I feel like websites have gone through the gammit of PowerPoint presentations. Noises and animation with *every* click were cool for awhile, but we’re beginning to realize simple does the trick just fine.

No MySpace for me. Ryan has one, though, and he mainly uses it to network with people in his line of work. I bet FB would actually work better, but I think he’s afraid of losing those contacts. Many of them make announcements and job postings at MySpace, still. I guess the film industry is as far behind as the music industry?
Go FB!
i have a myspace page, but haven’t logged in for months. I’m on facebook and twitter almost constantly, though.
My band has a MySpace page. I haven’t logged into it in probably over a year. I just need to delete it.
