I’ve known my friend Alex for about thirteen years or so. Dang. That makes us seem old. We first met back when I was still in high school and Alex was in an acoustic band called Five O’Clock People. Anyone remember them? Sure you do. But you may remember them from years later when they were signed to a record label and put out a record called The Nothing Venture. Memory getting clearer? Well, guess what peeps? They are back and in my opinion, better than ever. Temper Temper is the newest EP from the boys in Five O’Clock People and it’s without a doubt, a must have EP. The writing is amazing, instrumentation is awesome and the originality is nothing short of what you would expect from these guys.
And here’s the thing. It’s not just because I really like Alex, Drew and Pat, although I’m currently working on talking Alex into moving into the house next door to me, but this EP is ridiculous. And you know I don’t say that about many records. Seriously, have I ever steered you wrong when it comes to blindly purchasing a record based solely on my opinion?

So here’s what we are going to do. We’re all going to buy this record. That’s right. Every one of us is going to purchase this record and write a review of it right here in the comments. Now, here’s the tricky part. This record is kind of hard to get right now. They are currently sorting out some distribution plan, so here’s what you need to do. Email glassjoerecords@yahoo.com and tell then you want a record. They will take some of your money and then send you a CD like the one I got yesterday. Now, this isn’t some ‘Oh well, Brody’s just doing this because he’s friends with them so I don’t have to do it’ kind of thing. Seriously. Get. This. Record. Then come here and tell me (and them) what you think.
Sound like a plan? Leave a comment in the comments when you’ve ordered it, and once everyone starts getting their copies we will revisit this post for reviews. If you’ve already heard the record or already have it, go ahead and start the reviewing.
Ready? Go.

You forgot to tell us how much the record is.
Janet.
That’s because I’m not really sure how much it is. I forgot to ask. But when you email I’m sure they will tell you. I will try to find that out today.
I have a huge fan of these guys for a long time. Their latest record is equally as impressive. It seems to me that they spent their time apart growing and improving individually (if you can believe that was possible). This CD is a clear result of that improvement. I love the album.
Man, it’s probably been ten years since I heard Five O’Clock People. These 2 songs sound great. So is homebase Oregon, LA, or they doing the Nashville thing? Either way, Alex’s voice & melodies are very smooth.Yeah, for new music!
I just sent the e-mail. I didn’t know who these guys were until about 5 or so years ago. I was at a random Christian book store in an outlet mall. They had a box of cds that were 4 for a dollar. I saw one that I wanted, so I was gonna try to just buy it for a quarter, but they insisted I bought 4. So I randomly grabbed The Nothing Venture and two other albums.
The other two albums I didn’t care for, so I took them to a cd store and ended up making a few dollars of them, but The Nothing Venture I absolutely loved. I need to get some more of their albums, but never got around to it. Soon I will be purchasing Temper Temper though and I can’t wait.
Such good memories of this band. I am going right now to buy it for Drew for Father’s Day! Selfishly, I will listen to it frequently.

Thanks for posting this! I just sent them an email. I love 5 O’ Clock People to death.
Just sent them an e-mail myself. I’ve been a huge fan since the summer of 2002 when I heard the CD for the first time. It’s crazy that their music has yet to catch on. Nothing Venture has such a full sound (with great poetry!). Can’t wait to hear this full album. Any idea of where I can get some of their older albums other than Nothing Venture, such as “”tripping the spindley distractive” or “in the bleak midwinter”?
I would love it if Five o;clock people would release a collection of all their songs. It used to be possible to find stuff on Ebay-but no longer.
Dude…can’t believe FOCP is back. I searched for them awhile back and found nothing. “Lunar” has been on every playlist for the last 8 years. Thanks for the this!
or just….”thanks for this.”
I don’t know how easy it is to get this album. I emailed the glass joe records address and someone claiming to be Alex emailed me back -gave me a paypal address and (I guess) I gullibly sent in 15 bucks for the CD. This was two months ago. I waited-sent an email “Alex” said he would send it. I waited…again, no CD. It was two months and finally I sent an email to simply refund the money-which has not happened. So, take it for what is worth. I am a devout FOCP fan and was extremely disappointed this never happened. Bummer.
Hi Chris, did you ever receive the CD? I’m about to go down the same road myself….
Back in October I had an email exchange with someone who claimed to be Alex. Paypaled the 15 bucks and never heard back. I just emailed again and we will see. Bummer if I was scammed. Just want a CD…is that hard?
I forwarded your comment to Alex. I’m sure he’ll get back to you soon.
Dieing to know, did you guys ever get this squared away?!
I never heard back from anyone on this. I have been scouring the web for over a year to try and find this album, with zero success. I have eBay alerts and Google Alerts for anything related to Five O’Clock People or FOCP, and I seldom see anything meaningful. eBay has The Nothing Venture for sale quite often, but never Temper Temper. Heck, I even sent a YouTube message a few weeks ago to a user who uploaded a song from Temper Temper and it showed up on my Google Alerts.
Does ANYONE have this album who would be willing to provide me the mp3s? It’s not like this thing is for sale anywhere, or else I’d buy it. I am dying to hear this album. I’ve even tried to get in touch with Drew Grow and the Pastors’ Wives about getting a copy from somebody with connections, to no avail.
If anyone is interested in helping, email me at sds [dot] tumblr [at] gmail [dot] com.

I found Temper Temper at emusic.com Try there. I am no longer a member of emusic or I’d check it out. But…if you can’t find it, I’ll send you the mp3′s.
Best of luck.
John
The Nothing Venture is the only album available on eMusic, unfortunately. Perhaps Temper Temper was there once and got pulled?

I would be eternally grateful to receive the MP3s…. Perhaps you could upload a zip file of them to mediafire.com or yousendit.com?
I got an email from Alex months ago saying his email was in shambles and had lost several contacts. At that time, he said the CD would be coming out…but still my mailbox is empty. I sent Alex 20 bucks as I am sure many others did and to no avail. I am not bitter as their music is so good…an extra 20 isn’t going to kill me.
Still, I would love to here the CD and would be happy to do B and P’s if someone could get me the MP3′s.
Chris
By the way, I checked Emusic and while there are 2 CD’s there that match the search string “temper temper”, the bad is incorrect.
A while back I was able to find a couple of tracks off of the new album on Grooveshark, but I just checked and they are no longer there. They do, however, have several older albums – so bonus if you haven’t heard anything before Nothing Venture.
Also, the FOCP myspace page has the first 6 (of
tracks off of Temper Temper available on stream. For those interested, I was able to record the tracks from the site (as well as the older albums from Grooveshark). I can email the album to whomever wants it. The only song I am missing is track 7 (Deer Country), but if someone wants to email that to me we can piece together the whole album.
Also, I would love love love to be able to get a copy of In the Bleak Midwinter. I can’t find that anywhere either.

Sent you a message Andy. I am really looking for a real copy as well, any news from the people who sent money?
