Noah Gundersen – Jesus Jesus

It’s not often a song just reaches up and slaps me in the face or kicks me in the stomach, but when it does I listen to it over and over. Today this song did that to me. My friend Jeff recommended that I check out this guy named Noah Gundersen today so I started poking around and found this song.

Now if you’re offended by a few ‘bad’ words, this may not be for you, but the lyrics of this song are some of the most honest and searching lyrics I’ve heard in a long time in Christian music or otherwise.  Now, I don’t know this guys spiritual background/beliefs, but I can say that if Christians were this honest all the time, I think we’d be living in a different world.

Here’s the lyrics, and when you get a sec, check out Noah Gundersen.

Jesus, Jesus, could you tell me what the problem is
With the world and all the people in it?
Because I’ve been hearing stories about the end of the world
But I’m in love with a girl and I don’t wanna leave her
And the television screams such hideous things
They’re talking about the war on the radio
They say the whole thing’s gonna blow
And we will all be left alone
No we’ll be dead and we won’t know what hit us

Jesus, Jesus, if you’re up there won’t you hear me
‘Cause I’ve been wondering if you’re listening for quite a while
And Jesus, Jesus, it’s such a pretty place we live in
And I know we fuc*ed it up, please be kind
Don’t let us go out like the dinosaurs
Or blown to bits in a third world war
There are a hundred different things I’d still like to do
I’d like to climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower
Look up from the ground at a meteor shower
And maybe even raise a family

Jesus, Jesus, there are those that say they love you
But they have treated me so d*mn mean
And I know you said ‘forgive them for they know not what they do’
But sometimes I think they do
And I think about you
If all the heathens burn in hell, do all their children burn as well?
What about the Muslims and the gays and the unwed mothers?
What about me and all my friends?
Are we all sinners if we sin?
Does it even matter in the end if we’re unhappy?

Jesus, Jesus, I’m still looking for answers
Though I know that I won’t find them here tonight
But Jesus, Jesus, could you call me if you have the time?
And maybe we could meet for coffee and work it out
And maybe then I’ll understand what it’s all about

dude. that song kills me. especially this line:

“Jesus, Jesus, there are those that say they love you
But they have treated me so d*mn mean
And I know you said ‘forgive them for they know not what they do’
But sometimes I think they do”

keep on causing people to think, mr. gundersen

  3. love his voice! the song is heartbreaking as I see many in that situation.

This song made me think of Derek Webb and Wedding Dress

I hope Noah finds some one honest, trust worth to help him.

Thank you for putting the lyrics up.

He is an awesome guy, too. . . I’ve communicated with him a little bit.

Honesty is an amazing thing, and that’s what this song has. Just honesty and wonder.

    Love it. Thank you.

  9. What a great review… His music did the same to me too – I listen to this song over and over again. It breaks my heart and ignites passion at the same time. Can’t wait to find more music from you!

Dude awesome song! I love artists like noah who you dont know are christian but write these songs that really make you think. I am a christian and ever since i was of age to really understand life and god I’ve been asking these kind of questions and people i grew up with in my church always shot me down. But all an all its hurt me when i meet someone who is so turned off from god and jesus because of a bad experience or these people cal themselves christians but treat people who are gay or just a “sinner in general so bad. So awesome post ,Awesome song. And thank you

last february, we had Noah play at our house. it was a small show, maybe 20 or 30 people but it was one of the most personal, and moving shows i have ever been too. if you can support this young man, he has something to say and i think more people should hear him

Noah is a great guy (know him personally) and getting quite the attention in the seattle area! One of the best up and coming artists i have ever seen!

I see several of these posts mention that they will pray for Noah, but there is a reason this song was written. Many of his questions don’t have answers but the Christian body has contrived answers that are not true nor biblical. During my spiritual wanderings I found a great community in the hasidic Jewish congregation near me. One day my rabbi asked, “you are always welcome here, but you are no Jewish…so why do you keep coming?” I said, “rabbi, I have questions about god and was looking for answers.” he replied, “we don’t have answers, but we are not afraid to ask questions. Even when we question the almighty, that means we still believe in him enough to expect that he hears us…it is still a conversation.”

you show me a Christian who has all the answers and I will show you someone who has not experienced a broken world. Pray or Noah, but also for us who are supposed to carry the cross daily. Pray that the fruits of the spirit (having answers not being one of those fruits) so that we can be fully present with our loved ones when questions arise.

  16. IT REALLY MAKES YOU THINK. THE SONG SHOULD HIT SQUARE IN THE MIDDLE OF ANY CHRISTIANS HEART.
