Connection
I love connecting with people. If there’s one thing I’ve learned since working with Billy, and even more general working in the Country Music Scene, it’s this. Nashville is even smaller than I had previously thought. We are all very connected. Everyone knows everyone, and it’s still amazing to me. Here’s a short example. The original call I got for this job was from a guy named Aaron, who is friends with Spence. Now, it turned out that Aaron (Billy’s Road Manager) is really good friends with about a million people that I have known for a while and we spent a good deal of time connecting the dots. Well, now Aaron has moved on to road manage Babyface, and the guy to replace him is a guy named Mark who has been working with One Republic.
Now, I started talking to Mark the other day and it turns out that Mark has started working with a new band made up of two Australian brothers named Joel & Luke. Interesting. Now, once that connection was made, it turns out Mark and I also know several of the same people and the Nashville world grew even smaller.
One more connection I thought was interesting. Last week in South Carolina I had lunch with Jason Bradford, who I’ve heard so much about from my friend William. Well, it turns out Jason is friends with Thad, who plays guitar for Sugarland and writes and produces for several others. Since Thad and I are on the road together, we’ve got plans to grab some catering and learn what each other do and if we can work together on some level.
These connections and several others made within the past four weeks of stepping out of what I “normally” do blows me away. I’m excited to see where meeting all these new people can bring new friendship, opportunity, and again, more connections. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you reading this know the guys I’m talking about and are already connected to them.
I know some people love connecting with others and some are more interested in sticking to themselves. Which are you?

I like connecting. It’s fun and exciting!
I love connecting, I really like meeting new people and getting to know them…

I don’t know any of those guys you talked about. Then again, I’m in Chicago, not Nashville, and I’m a teacher, not in the music business, so why would I? But, I do love connecting with others. This is evidenced by the fact that all those people I connected with through the live MM broadcasts are still people I talk to almost daily through the wonderful world of the internet.
It is absolutely exciting to connect!!!
As Disney would purport, “…it’s a small world after all…”
Well, as I’ve said about 30 times (at least) since November, it’s the connecting that brings peeps together. I never imagined a virtual world of friends. I thought it was for the “younger” crowd. Boy am I wrong! And glad to be a “part of” a great group of people I call friends. You’re the Kevin Bacon of music. How many people does it take to connect to one, Brody Harper. A humble guy who’s life has in turn been changed by all of us, too. It’s a great addition to my life. It would be hard to unconnect.
I have no clue who any of those guys are. All this dot connecting brings me back to the days of Pee Wee’s playhouse. “connect the dots… la la la la”
I, too, love connecting (especially REconnecting!). I have connected many unexpected dots through blogging and facebook. I love it.
I love connecting with other people!
Facebook is definitely helpful with that. It’s exciting to look at the Mutual Friends you and another person may have and find some friends on there you would not expect.
Most of my weird connections are because of people who [used to] go to Trinity International University.
My pastor moved here from California 5 years ago and his former youth group comes to visit sometimes. One of them [Chelsey] finished her first year at Trinity and plays soccer for them. Turns out she knows a guy named Jordan that I know from the Internet through Rhett and Link. He graduated from Trinity in 2007 and has actually had Chelsey over to his house because his roommate Trevor is a soccer coach. Weird.
There is also a girl Sarah I know who goes to Trinity and plays softball. I met her when she came down here with her youth group from Wisconsin. Turns out she knows another person I met [Kim] who is a friend of my youth pastor, who also plays softball for Trinity.
It’s fun to think that two friends of yours are completely unrelated just to find out they’ve known each other longer than you’ve known both of them. It’s a tiny, tiny world.
