Sleep Patterns
Normally I sleep pretty well. I can probably count the times that I have laid awake thinking about something or genuinely unable to fall asleep, but just not really having time to sleep is another thing. And even another thing yet, is the ‘screwiness’ of tour vs. home sleep patterns.
See, on the road, especially these country bar shows, the shows don’t start until nine or ten at night and get out around midnight or one. Then there is the typical ‘wind-down’ time on the bus and then we get on the road usually around two or three. The next morning consists of possibly making it inside for a late breakfast at about ten or eleven or skipping even that and just walking in at about lunch time. Either way, there’s not much activity before noon.
Now, at home things are a little different. See, typically the house is quiet at about ten at night and there are these three little people that like to jump on me precisely at seven in the morning. Now, I’m all for getting jumped on by my boys at seven, but when I’m used to sleeping until ten or so and then having a slow walk into a venue, the shock is almost too much to handle. And switching between the two on a weekly basis is pretty interesting.
It’s because of this, that at times like, oh say, three in the afternoon, I am almost completely useless. We have declared ‘afternoon coffee time’ in our house an absolute necessity and there may even be a little napping involved.
So that’s my question for the day. What’s your sleeping schedule look like? What time are you in bed? And what time do you have to be up?

Bed at 1-2am up at 6:30am…5 days a week. Usually sleep 3am to 11am or so on Friday night/Saturday morning.
Go to bed between 11pm-12am (midnight) and I get up at 4am during the weekdays. On Friday night I usually stay up til 1-2am and try to sleep till 8-9am. On Saturday night I try to be in bed by midnight and get up by 8am. This is always subject to change since my granddaughter is an early riser.
If I didn’t work outside the home I would stay up till 1am and sleep till 10am. This is the schedule that I am most comfortable with.
it’s all messed up right now, I am not sleeping, but trying to get up for uni about 9am… usually have a mid afternoon/early evening nap…
It depends. If I’m working on school then, around 2am if not later than that. :/ Then I get up at 6:15 to get my little sister ready for school and little bro for daycare, while my mom is getting ready for work/feeding the infant (my other little sis.) From there my day starts. Weekends I go to bed around 11 or 12am at best then Saturday get up at 8 and Sunday is at the mercy of my little bro–when he gets up I get up. Unless my dad is home, in which case I might get to sleep in until 8 or 8:30, something which hasn’t been happening too often. :/
We try to be in bed around 9, but I am often on the computer until midnight. I get up around 6:30.
I don’t know how you guys (who go on tours) do your crazy schedules. Bless your hearts!
Laura
In bed at 10pm, up at 5:50am. My perfect schedule is bed at 1:00pm, up at 10am. I need to find a job that fits into that schedule. This teaching gig does not!
I’m pretty messed up having been on the Music Boat cruise last week. Late nights and waking a lot cause I’m not used to all that rocking (both kinds
Hey Brody, out of curiosity, how does one make it onto the list on the right. As a pretty regular commenter, I think I’d like to be on there. Do I need to “blog well” first? Because if so, I may never make the list.
Lol. “Blog well first…” that’s funny Lisa. Add me too mister Brody, (if that’s allowed).
As far as the sleeping routine back and forth for ya – yikes! That is most definately a brutal switch. I shall be addin’ your sleep (or lack thereof) to my prayer list.
I don’t get much sleep, but thankfully God seemed to engineer me to run well on quite a limited amount so that’s a blessing.
You are a champ. I would be incredibly grumpy if my sleep schedule had to flip flop that much. I’m asleep by 11pm and up by 6:30 am. (give or take a half hour)
Monday, Wednesday, Friday i wake up at 6ish in the morning for school. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday I wake up about 3:30ish in the morning for work. Sundays I get to sleep at late as 8am for church. Of course, this is finals week, so that means that i’m going to add a 4th work day next week and I’ll have two days that I’m just not sure about yet.
As far as bedtime, usually between 9pm and midnight
I’m trying to change my sleeping habits. I’ve been known to pull some all nighters. I generally go to bed between 1-2am and get woken up when hubby leaves for work @ 6:30am. My down time is between 2-3pm & I’d have to take little catnaps. I’m not getting much of those in anymore.
Haha… glad you asked. I recently found out that I had to do 120 hours of internship in order to finish my Bible/Psych Degree.
Weighing the options between doing it for free or getting paid I chose the obvious.
I now work the grave yard shift at a Koinonia Group Home. I sleep when I used to be awake and I am awake when I used to sleep. It’s pretty crazy but it’s an interesting season… kinda fun too. Being awake on Sunday mornings to lead worship is a little tuff but whatever. It’s a season that will give me stories to tell later right!?
In bed (watching tv) between 8pm and 9pm.
Asleep between 10pm and 11pm.
Up by 5am, weekdays.
Up by 9am, weekends.
Usually go to bed between 10 and 11 depending on if I watched much 24 with my wife. Then I’ll read or surf til 12 or 1. Usually get up about 7:30 or 8.
I can go a few nights w/o good sleep, but then it catches up and smacks me around and I crash.
I usually go to bed between 11 and 11:30pm and I’m up at 5:30am.
I’m a tea drinker rather than a coffee drinker, but I certainly have my caffeine at about 3pm as well. Makes for a kinder, gentler mommy.
That picture is AWESOME.
