The Dove Awards
Last night after the pre-show portion of the night, and after the award for ‘best packaging’ was called I was finally able to catch up with David Crowder and Shelly Giglio and talk to them about how we had just not won the Dove. Both of them mentioned how their plan was to have me do the acceptance speech in the event that we won that particular award. So in retrospect, maybe it is a good thing we didn’t win. No one needs that bad of a train wreck starting out the show.
I don’t even know where to start recapping the show. Kristin and I had a great time. I think the stress level was a bit high simply because we got there with two minutes to spare, and the whirlwind of it all, but once things settled down a little we were able to relax and have a really good time together. I can’t think of a better situation than to have my best friend with me at something like that.
The performances were awesome. Brandon Heath and Natalie killed it. MercyMe somehow managed to make two songs I have heard a couple hundred times live and make it more emotional than ever before and Steven Curtis Chapman left me completely speechless. Also seeing the Tenth Avenue North guys play and win New Artist Of The Year was great. And even though they aren’t a SkörInc artist (yet) and beat out two other bands that I work with, it’s awesome to see friends succeed and they deserve it.
And speaking of Tenth Avenue North, Kristin and I were able to meet Mike’s mom and dad (MrD and MommaD from the streaming chat) and they gave me a little gift. It’s something that deserves a post all to itself so you’ll have to wait, but it’s pretty amazing. Good people.
I’m sure there is more to talk about, but right now I’m only half way through a cup of coffee, so as the day goes on, I will probably think of more to say. All in all, a great night. Congratulations to all the winners, including SkörInc’s own Natalie Grant for Female Vocalist Of The Year for the fourth time in a row.
Anybody watch last night? What’d you think?

I watched the Doves for the first time at a friends house last night. It was awesome. Highlights: Natalie Grant, Brandon Heath, and of course, Steven Curtis Chapman.. that was so emotional. I don’t disagree with any of the winners, I was really excited with 10th North won! That was a trip. You guys must have had a blast! Lots of artists deserving some credit being offered credit, turning it down, and giving it all to God. Very cool to see.

I watched it later in the evening, at it was all really impressive. It’s great to see all the artists performing, having a lot of fun, and getting recognized for the great talent God has blessed them with.
The only down side was that the mix coming through for the broadcast wasn’t that great, and so unfortunately you couldn’t hear a lot of what I know were amazing performances very well, or they sounded like they were missing instruments. But it was a really good show.
And of course, congratulations on the nomination!
So wished I could have watched Brody but, my satellite company does not carry GMC. Everyone was tweeting about it though so I almost felt like I was watching. It was kind of like listening to a football game on the radio, I got the play-by-play action.
I was beginning to wonder though if you had seen MrD and MommaD since you had not tweeted about your ‘gift’. Hope you like it. It’s not a Dove Award but it is from our ‘blog nation’ hearts!
worked last night, but taped the Doves. watched it this morning before i twittered or saw the news, so didn’t know the winners in advance. everyone was great and of course i cried the entire time SCChapman was singing. what a beautiful family. keep up your wonderful work. you’ve already won in your fans hearts.
We didn’t see it, but a lot of “The Brody Bunch” were on “Hearitfirst” chat, so we got a little bit of the feel of things. I was excited for all of you who were there. I’m hoping we get some pictures or videos to see. :0) I’m very happy for SCC, Natalie Grant and TAN!
Nope, didn’t get to watch. I did watch whatever hearitfirst.com had showing on their website. So that was cool to watch the interviews they did, hear a tiny bit of the performers and read all the tweets the artists & you were tweeting!
Was putting up that link allowed?
I was watching it. I was at work seeing the Tweet for the pre-show awards. All I can say is that it’s a good thing we were slow or else I would have been SOOO distracted on the phones, lol.
Overall, the award show was amazing. I did adore Brandon’s performance. I’ve heard that song so many times, whith at least 5 different live arrangements, but that arrangement was cool. I also enjoyed the choreography.
Of course, just like everyone else, I was completely bawling after SCC performed. Like I Twitted, there was not a dry eye in that building nor from anyone watching. My dad came home at that moment and asked what was wrong. WHen I told him he started crying, then my mom ran in asking what was wrong and neither of us could speak we were so emotional.
I’m glad you had a fun time Brody. I was saying that next year I’m going to make sure to have the day off so I’m not disctracted, but then I changed my mind. Next year, I’m going to make it a point to be there, hehe.
Oh, and P.S. I know what Mr. D gave you. We were secretly ploting it behind your back, hehe!
I did watch. I had e-mailed Ryan (Addison road) and Scott (19th ave.) wishing them the best. Then I sat down and watched. Good show….except what was up with Sinbad? How odd!!!
I got to watch bits & pieces. Didn’t home til 730 & hubby beat me to the remote! Since the Penguins are in the playoffs, get what we watched? Yes, defeat.
Where is the couple’s picture? You know, together, with your new hair-do?
Oh, and I am excited to see what Mr D made! He talked about it for days. It was from the heart, I know.
So glad you had a good time! You are right-Natalie, MercyMe, Tenth Avenue North, Brandon Heath all were amazing that night. I was blown away by Natalie’s performance. I was so excited for TAN when they won-they looked speechless =) It was so beautiful to see the whole night-where every style of worship music was celebrated and to have God lifted up through all of it.
Glad you liked your gift-and glad we were able to keep it a surprise! Thanks goes to Mr D for putting it together for us.
So pleased to see the Lord’s hand on you in all this Brody. These things are no accident and it is fantastic to watch you continuing to give Him the first place in your life, relationships, business, and all. Keep it up – you’re rockin’ it out for Jesus and it is awesome to see. So inspiring!
