Taken
So, we’ve got this day off in Spokane, WA and a group of us went as saw the movie Taken. Now, I’ve been a little stressed the last few days and originally the idea of going to see a movie was to relax and not be stressed. Spoiler Alert: Not the movie to see when you don’t want to be stressed out. No seriously though. It was a pretty great movie and, in my opinion, dealt with a very real issue in a way that Hollywood typically doesn’t. There was no over the top sex stuff or gratuitous violence, but was still a great movie.
Now we’re headed to Outback for some dinner and then back on the bus and off to Seattle. Great, mellow day off in Spokane. Intense movie and some mall walking.
Anyone else seen Taken? What’d you think?

I haven’t seen it yet, but Liam Neeson, the lead actor, has been in my prayers today. His wife was killed in a skiing accident.
i saw taken when it came out. loved the movie. WAY intense and stressful but it was a great movie…exciting, full of action, makes you think too. liam neeson is the movie version of jack bauer in this film. awesome!
I saw it when it came out. It dealt with a real issue – people are abducted, sold as sex slaves, forced to become addicted to drugs, etc. – and an issue that most people don’t want to think about. But it did deal with it in a somewhat typical Hollywood way, vis a vis Liam Neeson coming in and kicking tail and killing anyone who dared touch his daughter. Major revenge movie.
And the whole time I was watching this I kept thinking about the interactions I’ve had with the people at International Justice Mission. The best description for them I’ve heard is calling them men of peace who work to persuade and prod governments into freeing people from modern day slavery. Were it my daughter, I would want to get the guy who took her and connect him to the Paris power grid. But the vengeance is not mine, and there would be no peace in the action or in my life for having done such. Serious dichotomy of thoughts through the whole movie.
I saw it and its a good movie. I really like Liam Neeson although nowadays when I hear his voice I can’t help but think of Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia.
We need to keep Liam and his family in our prayers as his wife died yesterday from injuries in a skiing accident.
It was so amazing. Like euphrony said, “serious dichotomy of thoughts through the whole movie.” I think there are many different elements of the movie that could be discussed all day.
I’m confused. Did we see the same movie? I saw it a few weeks ago and my boyfriend and I both thought it was awful.
I felt like I was watching a poorly acted episode of 24.
I wanted to like it. I really, really did. But it was too predictable and the ending was pure cheese. On top of that, the acting was atrocious. (Which was sad, because I like Liam Neeson.)
I saw it, loved it … and as a father of a darling 4 (almost 5) year old daughter, I left grieved that this stuff happens all the time, and prayed for my kids all the more earnestly.
Btw – just dm’d you about your site being down w/ internal server errors, but now it’s back, obviously!
I saw it….I ran a marathon for this very cause and the movie was good! I did think sometimes it was a little unrealistic and the cinematography was a little cheap, but overall, I’m glad that this was in theaters for everyone to see.
Christine Caine and the A21 campaign is a big organization in Greece dealing with this very thing. I hope that people watch this and do something about it!
What was interesting to me about the movie was that they were kidnapped in Paris a place I think we generally think is safe. Despite the flaws, there are still people who don’t know about human trafficking that might now know about it.
