Share And Enjoy

social-networks

Ok, so I have a question for all you web, bloggy people out there.  You know those “Social” things that are at the bottom of all these blog posts out there?  The things where you click and you can “Digg” things or send things to your Facebook or whatever?  When was the last time you used one of those?  There’s a million of them and I’m trying to figure out the point.

I know they are everywhere for a reason, but I’m not sure if honestly I have ever used one.  I mean, I think I have Tweeted a URL from a blog post I have enjoyed but I don’t know if I have ever ‘Dugg’ anything or sent anything to “del.icio.us” or anything else from there.

So let’s call it research.  How many of you have actually used those things and which one do you use the most?

“Share And Enjoy”

  1. Daily. Assuming it’s worth sharing.

    I like to share.

    :)

  2. I don’t use 90% of the ones I see. I have occasionally used a “tweet this” icon but now that I use Tweetdeck I don’t have much need for it anymore. The only other one I’ve used was the “Digg” icon if someone wrote a post that they are trying to get traffic from on Digg (usually only for bigger bloggers).

  3. I never use those honestly.

  4. i don’t use them.

i’ll tweet a url, but i don’t use the social buttons.

problem, to me, is that so many (if not all) of them require that you sign up…and…i just don’t need more services that i have to monitor.

i put links to email, twitter and facebook on my posts because those seem like the big 3.

digg and all those others…i just don’t care.

  5. I’m so new to this that 99% of them don’t even ring a bell. I pretty much ignore the buttons. Gene summed it up pretty well. Thanks, Gene. :)

I’ll hit the facebook button when I share stuff on Facebook, assuming that the button formats easier, etc. Don’t really use the other sites (I’m lame), except Twitter and I just (usually) POPurl the URL.

  7. Not once.

If I want to tweet something, I’ll do it on my own.

  8. nope, never – well, OK, if I submit my OWN posts. (that’s bad)

  9. I don’t use them. If I want to share something I cut and paste the URL the old fashion way. That way I don’t have to sign up for something I don’t want to, share information with someone I didn’t intend to when I went to a site, or pass extra information on through when I send the link. Many of those end up asking the person who clicks on the link you send or paste to sign up for their service as well-how annoying is that to the person you sent the link to! How hard is it to cut and paste a URL the old fashion way into Twitter, facebook, or whatever? Are we really getting that lazy?

  10. Any time I read a blog that is, to me, worth sharing….which is several times a day.

  11. occasionally, and I mean very occasionally I will add something to delicious…

  12. I never even noticed them.

  13. Paisley

    Zero, ziltch, nada…

  14. This is a helpful post for me as I’ve been asking the same question (mostly to myself) lately. I just added a couple share buttons to my blog, but I realized that I’ve never used them myself. I often share posts or other things that I’ll read, but I almost always just copy and paste the URL or use a browser extension/bookmarklet/toolbar. So to sum up: I share, but I don’t use the buttons.

  15. tam

    what?

    kidding.

    ive never used them.

  16. I will occasionally digg a story – usually outlandish, ridiculous, and humorous – so I can reference them later, usually for a fun day at the office.

I tried delicious for awhile but there is something about the design of the site that drives me nuts.

Otherwise, I am like everyone else and will copy + paste wherever I please (Facebook, Twitter, whoever I’m chatting with).

  17. ‘K – so I’ve used the delicious thing before, and I’ve tweeted a post or 2…but not the others.

I’ve got them on my blog, but partly cos they create a cool little end-of-post “underline” from the mini-icons…

  18. Psh! Use those!? HA!

  19. Maybe once, for FB? I don’t use them, really.

  20. I never use them. Mostly because I don’t know what they do.

  21. Yeah I like to post things to FB that way, and I hit the Twitter one on occasion too. Sometimes it’s just easier than copying and pasteing.

  22. I’ve used them. I Digg things, I bookmark stuff on Delicious, and I Yahoo Buzz stuff and I’ve definitely shared things on Facebook. Facebook sharing definitely seems to be a good traffic producer.

Delicious has a pretty good firefox extension if you’re into Firefox. Very handy.
