This might bore most of you, but this presentation was pretty interesting to me this morning, and I thought I’d share it here.  Some of you music people, I’d love to know your thoughts.  He’s got a lot of ideas crammed into this presentation.  I’ve watched it a few times to try and catch it all, but I think there’s some gems.

See, this is the ‘world’ that I live in so all of this makes sense to me and I totally agree with it, but I know there have got to be people out there that don’t agree with this as a whole and I’d love to know your thoughts. Where do you fall?

I must be old. I had to google Trent Reznor! Never heard of Nine inch Nails. Did go to the website. For me it is TMI. Make it simple. Maybe the younger crowd can handle all that info on one screen.
I will say Reznor has a way to CwF. He has come up with some great ways to give people a RtB. Non-threatening ways. Make the fans part of the experience so that the fans at the next venue are excited about the concert.
Being a part of the MM concerts made me feel like I was reaching out to people who happened by the streaming video and asked “is this live”, “where are they at”, “who is this”. If I had forgotten to sign on the night after you were in Amarillo, I wouldn’t have been any help. You have seen how the fans for MM were. The Roadshow is going to be an explosion.
I’m not a game player. Although I am good at puzzles. Some of the ideas to CwF such as the letters on the t-shirts spelling out a key to a web-site was kind of neat.
You have already incorporated a lot of neat stuff on The Roadshow’s blog. Places where video can be uploaded & not be threatened if done. That should I or shouldn’t I drama we have all experienced. Is it right or wrong. And the donor part is awesome. Not everybody will be able to do it, but the perks for doing it are great. I would do it in a heartbeat if I were gainfully employed.
You can’t do it all at once. But, put it out there & the fans will come. You have given these artists a great stage in which to CwF. If you can’t connect, there will be no RtB. The formula will then be broken. You DO connect. You put yourself out there & make it feel like you are one of us. (not that you aren’t). We look to you when it gets skippy or someone is inappropriate.
I told Lisa (sunnyside) last night that I feel like we are in on the ground floor with you and YOUR fans believe in you. No pressure or anything, Brody! We know not every night will be perfect, but know that we will be back the next night. Looking forward to the next adventure! :)

Wow, thanks for sharing, Brody! I’m glad I saw the whole thing because it was very interesting to hear the over 200 slides that last for 15 minutes—amazing task and quite eloquent by the way! CwF + RtB = $$$$, huh? I am glad the presenter emphasized the importance of future music business by means of connecting with fans and offering high quality special/unique/added value options, thus giving fans reason to buy, which must be kept up as Trent Reznor of NIN is doing. People appear to love option and that is what they are getting. Again, thanks for sharing and if I might add, it is great to note that you are part of the digital music age movement!

Trent is pure genius. That is all there is to it. Every single musician trying to “make it” needs to watch that video. In fact I can think of a few that I know. I don’t think the business model is new, but I think artists and record labels forgot about it when business was easy and people didn’t need a good reason to buy music. The video had some cool ideas that you seem to be already modeling and I am sure that the video helped to bring about some new ideas. Can’t wait to hear them.

That’s a great presentation. Trent has definitely connected with his fans. I like the letters on the t-shirt thing however, I’m not sure I would have picked up on that one. I probably would have questioned the letters being different but I doubt I would have realized it was a website but still it was a neat idea.

I really like the part where he said Trent personally sent a survey to his fans and the it made him “human”. I think MercyMe has already been doing these types of things. I can honestly say through the blog, Twitter, Facebook and the online concerts I feel like I’m a part of the family. They share with us, whether its a sick child or places they go or chatting online with us or just having fun with a song, they allow us to be a part of it. You help us to be a part of it.

I was a Journey fan for years and even got to meet a few of the guys once. Still in all the years I have been a Journey fan I have never felt a connection with them like I do with MercyMe.

I agree with Shelley, “I feel like we are in on the ground floor with you and YOUR fans believe in you”. I look forward to all the exciting things that I know you will be doing for the artists and for the fans.

Trent Reznor gets the idea. So do you, Brody. The idea of CwF and RtB is something that will be how one markets anything in the future. People love connecting with the actual people behind a product.

I would love to see a new musician use this model from the outset of their career, and see if it can be done. Many people, especially those entrenched in the traditional business model of the music/entertainment industry, would say that it can’t, but I think it’s possible. If some things fall in line for me, I just might try it myself.

It works. I haven’t listened to or followed NIN since high school. I heard about the free music and got interested in what NIN was doing these 14 years later. I looked into his music, website, and even joined the fan club to get updates.

I talked to your dad about Skorinc. Sounds really exciting. Good luck.
