Pressure

jesus_obama

It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in man.

It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in princes.

-Psalm 118:8-9

It’s a historic day today, no doubt.  We should all be praying for our country and our new president, but I’d be careful how much expectation is put on one man.  He will let you down.  He can bring hope, but not salvation.  And that’s about as political as I’m going to get on here.

“Pressure”

  1. I completely agree.
While I did not vote for Obama, I’m extremely excited this candidacy.
However, I agree that so much pressure is being put on Obama, that he truly can only disappoint people from here, which is sad to think about.

Regardless, today is a huge day in history.

Thanks. Short, sweet and well said.

I’m sorry, that just about turns my stomach.

  4. Kelly

the picture, that is…your comments are true.

  5. Entirely my thoughts on politics. Let Jesus reign!

    Creepy picture….

  6. Well stated Brody!
    Prayers are what we need.

  7. Oh my gosh, I’m gonna have nitemares centered around that picture…it’s just soooo creepy! I’m with you, though, major prayers going on today…for everyone.

  8. You are so right about expectations. There is so much wrong with our government, that NO one human will be able to fix what’s wrong. And that is a creepy picture. The face looks so familiar…..

  9. Did you see my thread on Carlos’ blog?
Even though we were neighbors and never saw each other I am glad we are friends. :) H

Dude, that pic is creepy. I’m w/ you on the text though. So true.
Oh…everyone else has already mentioned the pic..

  11. I don’t care if everyone has said it already, that is the creepiest durn picture I’ve ever seen. It almost has a Crying Game effect…

  12. Alright, I’m slow! I didn’t even notice the pic until I started reading the other comments.

  13. Amen, brother!!!!!!!! My, I am left speechless as God never fails to amaze me…God bless you because you have wisely stated the obvious and only God has inspired you to share thus with us. Hence, seriously continue basking in Christ Jesus come what may~

  14. I could not agree more. Thanks for the putting it into words to remind us all of the truth.

  15. Ya hit the nail on the head. I’ve been trying to tell people this very same thing…only you did it better.

That picture is beyond disturbing to say the very least! GROSS! I totally agree with President Obama being “set up” for failure. People place far too much hope in the wrong things and people and then blame the same things/people when they are disappointed.

I’m not watching any of the inaugural festivities today. I’ve never been one for that kind of “hoopla.”

I’m sure I’ll be called racist for even saying this, but I think today was just one example of a HUGE waste of taxpayer dollars. Should we, as a nation, celebrate the inauguration of a new president? Absolutely. Have a big parade, etc. But to have all the celebrities, balls (4 or 6 just tonight I think), gala events, etc., not to mention the monumental amount of security involved in all of it is really a crime. Our nation is in the midst of an enormous economic crisis, we’ve bailed out Wall Street and banks to the tune of millions, thousands are jobless, uninsured and in debt beyond their wildest dreams, and we’re spending MILLIONS on a one day event.

I’ve always felt this way about Inauguration Day events, but feel less “free” to state such this time around because of the historic nature of President Obama’s election. It saddens me to know that even though our nation has come so far in the fight to end racism and discrimination, race is still an issue. Not always because of racist attitudes, but because we continue to make EVERYTHING about race. My vote was not based on any candidates’s race or color, but on issues important to me. I hope everyone can say the same thing, but I fear that’s not always the case.

I didn’t vote for him, but I will sure be praying for him and the rest of our nations’ leaders as they have a very tough job ahead to be sure.

I couldn’t have said it better. I know a lot of people have some very high expectations of him and are going to be very disappointed.

Beth, I agree with you on the all the taxpayers money being spent on all the events. With the economy being in the state it is in spending money on things like this is a waste to me.

I didn’t vote for him but I will pray for him and this country.

    The picture is creepy.

  18. Well said! And I agree with Paisley, that picture is creepy.

  19. Well said. I like your political side.

And, how did you get my picture…

  20. Well said. He’s just a man…and a politician at that.

  21. Rock on.

You know, truthfully, I didn’t vote for him, but I found it hard not to cry watching everyone look so happy at the inauguration yesterday. It was nice to share in their historical moment.

And it gives such peace trusting God in all of this: past, present and future.

A couple random early morning thoughts in response…

A lot of people were talking about how “Martin Luther King Jr’s Dream is finally fulfilled” and so on. TV news last night they went to a bunch of schools and talked to kids. One said something along the lines of “look at all the opportunities it will open up for young people” I’m sorry, the opportunities are there. Maybe it will give some young people the confidence to PURSUE the opportunity, but it won’t change the opportunity.

@beth we haven’t spent millions. We’ve spent BILLIONS. I know when people start slinging around those terms, it’s easy to get lost in the enormity of the number, but its still true. WE’ve spent seveal hundred billion so far, and Obama is propsing several hundred billion more. Before this is all over, we’ll have spend several trillion trying to …get out of debt? Tell me again how spending more money is going to get us out of debt?

@pokinatcha I’m with you on th picture, I knew it was odd, but I didn’t get the creepiness untill I started reading the comments, and went back and looked. *shudder* yeah, it’s creepy alright.

  23. I find it startling how so many people have put such immense hope in this one man. Frightening, actually.

I didn’t vote for Obama, but I am an optimist. It will be great if he DOES help to facilitate some sense of responsibility and service amongst Americans. Our country needs that. I pray that he DOES listen to God Almighty and seek His guidance. I’d love to see the economy benefit from sound decisions and ideas from this new administration.

But, like you, my HOPE rests in the King.

  24. Beth

    Mike,

The amount spent and that will continue to be spent on getting out of debt is in the TRILLIONS. I was only speaking of the MILLIONS spent JUST on the Inauguration “festivities.” WAY OVER THE TOP.
