The Beginning

2009

Well, it’s begun.  The first day of the new year.  Not much has changed from yesterday, but I’m excited.  I’m still trying to figure out if I’m more excited about last year ending, or if I’m more excited about what this year might hold.

Neither Kristin or I are big on ‘resolutions’, but the beginning of a year always brings some reflection and assessment of your life.  I think it’s good to have realistic goals and work hard to attain them and that’s how I am looking at this year.

I think one thing I really want to focus on this year is being a person of integrity.  If there’s one thing that I want to hold up as a high importance in my life, it would be to be a person of integrity.  In business, in friendship and in life.  It’s a harder road some of the time, but in the end I think it’s worth the trouble to not be the guy that lies, steals and cheats his way to the ‘top’, whatever that ‘top’ may be.  It might take longer and we may never attain every goal, but at the end of the day, I want the people around me to see someone they can trust.  Wow, that sounds a little dramatic, but it’s not.  Just something I think we should all strive for.

So that’s about it for me as far as ‘resolutions’ of sorts.  Well, that and have an awesome mustache again.

Everyone has got a few goals laid out for the beginning of the year.  Today is the first day of that.  What’s yours?

Integrity – such a great vision to focus on! Ditto – will work on that, too. My resolution this year is to daily write down my closest moment to God. Somehow I think in doing that, the goal of being that person on integrity will grow. Happy New Year to all – filled with blessings.

  6. Today’s NA meeting was on vigilance. Many 12 step programs are based on spiritual principles. One of the goals of said program is to “practice these principles in all my affairs”. If we do not remain vigilant each & every day, a battle will ensue. I have had to work hard to regain my integrity and do not want to compromise what I have gained back in my life. “Just for Today” I will remain vigilant & guard my spiritual principles against the evil that hides around those bends in my path.

  7. My main goal is to encourage my kids to use kind words towards each other and treat each as “love your neighbor as yourself”

  8. I think mine is (and I say think because I haven’t thought much about this, I’m not one for resolutions either) to not be so defensive and quick to anger.

You can check out my goals here–http://jamiebeals.posterous.com/.

  10. To begin reading my Bible on a regular basis.

    To lose 10 pounds.

To save up a down payment for a house. (Bad timing, I know, what with Schwarzenegger threatening me with a 10% pay cut. But with my God, all things are possible!)

  11. Rowan

To speak love into my family.
To model to my girls how to handle disappointment & adverstity.
To value the temple God has given me enough to care for it properly (eat whole foods more than manufactured foods, move more than before) by hopefully losing 25 pounds of the MANY i need to.
To participate in a 5k event with my hubby.

  12. tam

to put pen to paper and finish this book thing.

    reach out more.

get a mammogram. (a left over resolution from last year)

learn at least one song on the guitar.

  13. My goal for this year is to live from the heart, and be “in the moment.” Especially with my girls who are growing up too fast!

  14. learn another instrument (because clarinet is not very cool)

make sure to spend time with my baby daily (because going back to work won’t be easy)

become a behavior consultant by the end of the year

    graduate from college (finally)

and make a “brody’s top five” at the end of the year, even if it’s an honorable mention :)
