Year Of The Blog?

As 2008 quickly comes to a close, I have started thinking about this year and all the craziness that has come with it.  Both for me personally and SkörInc.  In fact, this time last year SkörInc didn’t even exist, nor was it even a solid idea.  Today, what seemed like a random idea a year or so ago has turned into something that I can barely wrap my brain around, and am still trying to figure out.

Last night I started thinking about all the different blogs we have started this year and how much the blogging platform has gained ground this year as a whole.  Now, I know blogs have been around for a long time, and I’m not saying that this whole blog thing is something new, but I am still calling 2008 ‘The Year Of The Blog’ and I need your help with some research.  Cool?

MercyMe’s blog was the first blog that SkörInc launched as a ‘company’.  January 10th, 2008 to be exact.  Most of you remember the really bad theme, and the hurdles we jumped just to get it going.

Next was a blog for Connersvine, on January 15th, which included taking on more than just a blog and creating a full blog based website.

Next was Fee’s Blog on January 23rd.  Again another very basic blog, with challenges and struggles, but has turned into another complete blog based site.

Next on the list was Phil Wickham’s blog, officially launched February 10th, though I had created him a basic blog all the way back in June of 2007.

From there we launched Daniel Renstrom’s blog on March 25th, where we tried out some new things including Flickr photos in the sidebar, and a photo background design.

Natalie Grant was next, launching on April 7th.  Natalie came out of the gates swinging and had a lot of traffic and interaction right from the start.  It was a surprise but a good one.

Next was Joy Whitlock’s blog, launched on September 15th, which pushed us again to do something new with the design and a whole blog based, interactive site.

That week was a busy one for Randy and I, as we launched Elijah Stephen on September 16th, and Damian Horne’s on September 18th.

As the year gets closer to an end, more recently we launched The Katinas site on November 1st, along with their Missions site and then two days ago Brenton Brown’s blog.  What’s crazy is we are still working on some more that will launch before the end of the year… but you will have to wait for those.

So as you can see it’s been a busy year for us and I think for blogging as a whole.  Don’t you?  Now here’s the part where I need your help.  I know that blogs have been around forever and I know that it’s nothing new in the computer world, but I’d like to know when your favorite musician’s blog was started.  It’s easy to find out.  Just go to their blog and go all the way back to the first post.  Look at the date and come back here and comment on who it is, and when it started.  Sounds easy enough right?  It would be cool if it was specifically Christian music, but doesn’t need to be.  I’m guessing a lot of these showed up within the last year.  What about you?

  2. You have several favs of mine already. Keep plugging away. I always wondered why blog. I was never good at keeping a diary when I was younger. Now that I have almost 17 months in recovery, it has become an outlet for me. I hate writing, but typing seems easier somehow. A way to whine when I want! And give glory to God when I want. Who wants to read my blog? Don't know. It's too soon to tell. I have made 5 or 6 friends thru the MM stream concerts. Keeping up, now that I am also unemployed, keeps me occupied, but these are true people, not fraud. Only here to lean on one another when we need it. I've rambled enough. This could be my next blog subject! Your mom sounds very proud of the guy who hides behind his hat!

  3. I totally remember Adam's blog. I could never figure out why it looked like it was from the Cal Berkley college site, but I loved reading all his rants. Nice call.

  4. You already posted it in your blog! Natalie Grant April 7th. Then there are several others. Interesting thing is this was one week after my right temporal lobectomy when I was finally getting well enough after 2 1/2 years of being sick to soon start following the artists online. Artists whose music reminded me of Gods promises while was I was so sick, on days I didn't know what would happen in the next 5 minutes. Now that I am well I can follow these artists ministries and pray for them and their ministries regularly.

  5. really cool to see all the different blogs summarized and cataloged here.

in light of this wonderful post, i thought you'd enjoy this bit of silliness:

    http://www.wired.com/entertainment/theweb/magazin…

…yeah…right…facebook is WAY more 'personal' than a blog…

pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

    …which no one did.

  6. I wish I had time to play along. Maybe tomorrow. I just got home from Andrew Peterson's "Behold the Lamb of God" tour. Freaking amazing!! Just how much talent can fit on one stage. I also got to talk to Bebo and Gabe for awhile since they were hiding on the bus after the MM show :)
My favorite blog is MM, and since you started it, you know. I'll have to think about my next favorite, or like your mom, when I started mine. I don't even remember.

I remember a long time ago surfing the net and coming across Adam Duritz (counting crows) blog. I didn't know what it was at the time. He would sit in his hotel room or wherever and just write whatever was on his mind or rant about something. I went back and looked at the site and it goes back to 1995. He blogged about recording "recovering satellites".

  8. MercyMe…….1.12.2008
    Shawn Mullins…….still no blog

  9. My fav…MercyMe January 10, 2008 (like you said). But I also began blogging Jan.16,2008, thanks to you. I know I'm not a band, I just wanted to tell you that.
    Love you. Mom

  10. I echo Rowan. David Crowder is one of my favorites…although I don't care for xanga anymore.
