My Weird Arm

Wanna hear something weird?  The other day when we were playing football, during one of the plays I hit my arm on something.  It instantly started hurting but I didn’t know what from.  Now, today my arm looks like this.  It doesn’t look too bad but the weird part is that the palm of my hand is starting to swell and my middle and ring fingers are hard to bend.

I assume it has something to do with the tendons inside there getting all banged up, but I’ve never had anything like that happen before.  In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever bruised that part of my arm before.  It’s a little weird.  Problem is, I am left handed and it’s hard to do things including type so I’m going to be done now.

Any medical people out there have an idea of what might be going on?

  1. Well, I’m not a doctor, but I play one on the internet. (Did that sound kinda weird? Sorry.)

Anyway, sounds to me like a possible contusion.

  2. do you get hurt/sick on every tour that you go out on.

Hey on another side note I was at a Phil Wickham/Fee show last night and through some talking i told them that i read their blog and that I linked to it by reading your blog.

    They say hello!

  3. I think it’s officially called “not getting any younger” but seriously you should probably have it looked at.

  4. Is that bruising also around your middle finger?

I think if you aren’t able to use that hand much, you should be getting it looked at.

Listen to your wife. Go get that thing checked out. Looking forward to Thursday.

  6. I hate to tell you this, but your arm’s going to fall off. I’d say Tuesday. You can get $50 for it on eBay.

  7. Probably not a good thing! You may have a torn tendon (there are lots in there). You may have also broken one of the bones in your hand/wrist…also a lot in there. It could just be a bruise that has caused swelling, pressing on some of the nerves and tendons which is decreasing the function of your hand. If the swelling gets worse, pain increases, or the function of your hand continues to decrease, you should definitely be seen. You should be icing it in the meantime. Good luck!!

  8. Brody – I will be praying about your arm/hand, seriously.
However, (at the risk of sounding like I am your parent) I agree with your lovely and wise wife, Kristin.

When in doubt – get it checked out!!! :)

Since you “hit” it on something, and didnt land on it Its likely just a bruise. Your hand and fingers are swelling as the blood from the bruise, will go to the lowest point, since your hand is likely always lower than you elbow, it will drain there. ICE, ICE, ICE for the next 48 hours. Keep working it slowly to keep things moving it will be better in a few days.
;0) Tell those ruffians to take it easy, or they’ll be another man down.

  10. Brody,

Go get your arm checked out now. The difficulty in moving your fingers means it could be something called compartment syndrome. This is a potentially VERY serious condition and you need to get it looked at now rather than later! Is there pain in your fingers as well or just stiffness? I’m not trying to sound paranoid or anything but please go and get it looked at now. It may be nothing, but better safe than sorry.

  11. Not being able to move your fingers is God’s way of saying “GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!”

  12. i’d have it amputated if i were you. no arm, no foul.

Hey son, I am your parent…take the advice you asked for and go see a doctor, please. I agree with Aunt Sue, ice it.

    Love you, Mom

  14. I know it isn’t macho to get things checked, but one time my friend broke their arm and didn’t do anything. Two weeks later they couldn’t move it. So when it finally got checked, they realized it had formed back together the wrong way. The had to re-brake the arm. My friend said that they have never experienced anything more painful. (And she birthed a 11 pound baby).

Did I convince you to get it checked out?

  15. This is the most amazing post ever. These comments are awesome!

  16. Hey, go see a doctor. No joke.

  17. Dude, go see a doctor, and stay away from football for awhile.

  18. Irene

So did you go to the doctor?
    Signed a Nurse :)

  19. I know what’s going on. A musician tried to play an impact sport!

    Jeff – you are hilarious!
Brody – Hope you are doing better.

Very interesting comments!! Laughing Out Loud…what kind of friends do you have? ha ha ha
I think you should get it checked out by a real doctor…

I also love the tatoo!! Wish I could see more of it.

  22. Brody’s blog is the only one where I’ll read all 20 something comments before mine.

In my professional opinion, Brody, it looks as though your injury is manifesting itself as some sort of inky-writing on the underside of your forearm, perhaps as the name of a woman. I would definitely have this looked at.
