I’m The 1940′s

I’ve always been fascinated by the 1940′s for no other reason than the fashion.  I wish I could have lived back then, and been able to dress like these guys.  How cool would that be?  I mean, I don’t know when the last time was that I wore a tie and I think I look pretty stupid in a hat like that, but that’s okay.  I think if I lived back in that time I could have pulled that stuff off.

Kristin and I have talked numerous times about how we wish that we could dress like we lived in the 40′s but how there’s really just no way that we could do it and be able to afford it, for one, and second, it’s not like you can run down to Target and pick up clothes like that.

I think everyone has an “era” that they are drawn to for one reason or another.  I think for Kristin and I it’s always been the 40′s.  And what’s weird is I have no idea why other than the cool clothes.  Is that a thing?  Or are we just freaks?

What’s your “era”?

  2. It’s funny! I always tell steven I would love to live in the 40′s. Early 40′s a little before the war. I love the way the women dressed and the cars. I loved that people had summer home (if you were rich). I guess I look at The Notebook, the movie and I just wanna go back to a simpler, but sophisticated time period. ahhhh and the music! I love it!

  3. Dude. so weird. I’m the same way. Same era even. That’s actually my guilty secret. I don’t play music because I love it.. I play it because it allows me to get away with wearing clothes like that when I perform.

  4. I’m in agreement with Lisa: early 40′s before the war. I want to live when women were expected to cook and clean and sew and take care of children, because that’s what I’m good at. I wish I was allowed to stick to my strengths rather than have society pressure me towards debt and a career that fits me just about as good as a size 2 shoe (i.e. Not at all)

  5. I would like to live in the 20′s, 30′s or 40′s. Mostly for the music, although the clothes would be super cool as well. Sometimes I’ll buy an old fashioned clothing piece and try and pull it off. Usually, I just look like a goober.

  6. I’m timeless.

(Which, of course, is just another way of saying that I don’t fit no-when.)

  7. I agree–the 1940s and 1950s. I like the clothes because they were flattering on everyone and fit well. Men’s clothes since then just don’t seem to fit as well, especially today. And the throwback to the 80s we’re going through is especially unflattering on 80% of the population. Thankfully, women can pull off wearing vintage clothes a lot easier than men!

  8. the Old West, those just always look bad a–, although bathing would have been a huge issue for me….I have to shower once a day

  9. What is it about the 40′s? That would definitely be my number 1 era as well….maybe the late 40′s into the 50′s. Must be something nostalgic about that time period. Maybe it seemed happy even though there was great sadness?

But if I had to pick a number two based solely on fashion, it would be the 1790s. The dresses were made so that if you had large hips and bust, that was a GOOD thing. LOL. (Can I say that on this blog?)

I loved the 50′s. I was born then and I love everything about that era.
Hey, Bro..I have pictures of your Grandfather, in the 40′s dressed just like that. You would look just like that. His eyes, face and smile.

    Love you, Mom

  11. I love the red lipstick, the hats and the polka dot dresses….

The other era of time that I would’ve wanted to grow up in would’ve been the “life on the prairie days.” (probably from reading Little House on the Prairie books) I wouldn’t have wanted to be an adult and have babies during that era of time though. Rough… and my hair would’ve been an extremely frizzy afro.

So definitely the 40′s at the top of my list.

the 30′s or 40′s would be cool just to see blues and jazz become solely american art forms.

plus i can jump, jive, and wail in a suit.

  13. I would have to say the 20′s and the early 30′s. Blame it on too much Turner Broadcasting Network. I love the clothes and the hair styles, not to mention the music. Gotta love that jazz!

  14. It would be lovely to attempt dressing in 40s style, yes even today, at least once!
