A Gallon A Day

So, I’ve decided to start drinking a gallon of water a day.  I know it might not sound like a lot to some people, but I think it’s a lot.  I mean, why would anyone drink a gallon of anything a day?  I can’t imagine sitting down with a gallon jug of water and looking at it as if you had to finish it.  Although, after doing some math it doesn’t seem like it will be that hard.

If I drink eight of the sixteen ounce water bottles in a day that’s a gallon and that doesn’t seem like that big of a deal.  I’m sure I’ve done that before, but I’m making a conscious effort to do it every day.  That’s going to be the tricky part.

How much water do you drink a day?

I am trying to get back into that. I used to push it and drink almost a gallon at work until the dr told me I could kill myself by messing around with electroytes and stuff..

I will try drinking a gallon during my shift tonight!

  2. Hm. That’s a lot of water. Isn’t the recommended amount about half of that?

Oh, and you better not drink outta that kinda water bottle or the environmental-oriented friends of ours will be on your tail.

  3. Steven,
What if it’s the same bottle every time and I just refill it? And what if I say wear a t-shirt or something that says, “Go Green” while I am drinking it?

  4. oh man, i drink so much water..i love it..it’s the best thing ever invented. it gets a little embarrassing at work though, when my co-workers give me weird looks because i’m running to the bathroom every 90 minutes.
..but yeah, be warned..people die from drinking too much water..

  5. It’s an admirable goal—and far be it from me to stop you—but make sure you do some homework first. I remember reading about a medical study within the past year or so that found your body actually requires much less water than previously thought, and that it can actually be less-than-healthy to drink too much. I’m sure you’ll live whichever path you choose. Just my two cents.

  6. A woman died in a contest drinking gallons of water for some concert tickets…..

Have fun! :) I think more people should drink more water than we do!

  7. I usually drink a lot of water… I would drink more if my house had good tap water. There were days when I had softball tournaments where I would drink close to a gallon and a half!

  8. Great post, Brody. By the way, I remember studying the plastic bottles may be toxic to our bodies. Therefore, refilling the bottles over and over to go green may not be the way to go, but who knows?

Also, I perceive with regard to most things in life, moderation is key.

  9. i drink 64 oz of water a day. Which for me is enough. People at my work probably wonder why I wander to the bathroom so many times during the day..

I drink atleast a gallon a day, 1/2 liter during my morning workout, atleast 2 liters while I’m at work and atleast 2 more liters when I get home. (I measure in liters because that’s what’s on the water bottle.) I use the same bottle all day, and get a new bottle every 2-3 days because I have also heard you shouldn’t refill the bottle over a period of days.

  11. are you setting this goal to offset the gallon of coffee that is drunk every day?

  12. I heard that the only reason it isn’t recommended to re-use the same bottle too many times is that most people don’t adequately wash said bottle. Germs – ew.

I don’t think you’re in any danger of water intoxication with one gallon per day… I probably drink about that much.

Another interesting tid-bit I head recently is that “they” have changed “their” stance on the hydrating value of other drinks. For instance, you make Kool Aid or Crystal Light with water, right? We used to be told that the water didn’t count as water intake for the day. Now, I’m hearing that it DOES count. Of course, plain fresh water is always the best!

  13. i drink like 6 16oz waters during the week.

    on weekends i totally forget.

    and am dehydrated till monday.

  14. I don’t drink that much water on a regular basis. Sometimes I get on water kicks, though. Shame on me.

A group of people at my school do an annual “one to two gallon challenge” and lug around a brightly decorated gallon of water every day. The intention is to drink it all, even though they have learned the dangers of drinking too much water. It really suppresses your appetite, too…so make sure you’re getting enough nutrients and such.

Water is really my favorite drink also. In the summer, I tend to drink more, but still almost always have a glass or bottle with me.

My man drinks a gallon a day its rather frustrating because a gallon is expensive and when I want a drink its gone. He is 6 feet tall rather skinny and he burns off a lot. I would not recommend it. It makes everyone upset because some people in the household dont drink that much. I would at least save some for other people or buy your own gallon for the household, but even then you can get sick, if you dont drink that normally .
