Something mentioned in the comments of my last post got me thinking about that day that Kristin and I got married and I started thinking about the music that was played that day.  We obviously had all the wedding music picked out, and for the most part we had most of the music picked out for the reception.  One song in particular that I was pretty firm on, as I assume most people are, was the song that Kristin and I danced to for our “first dance” as a married couple.  Now, I don’t dance much so it was more like swaying back and forth and talking, but that’s what we do.

I have always been a pretty big Derek Webb fan and even felt silly telling him this when we met, but our first dance was to a song of his called “Somewhere North” off of the Caedmon’s Call, 40 Acres record.  It’s a great song and will always remind me of that day.

If you’re married, what song did was your first dance to?  If not, what would you choose if you had to today?

  1. our first dance was to The Luckiest by ben folds.

  2. cool. idk what i would pick, but my sister (who is getting married in sptember) is walking down the isle to the beginning of “Beautiful” by Phil W. it’s pretty cool.

  3. Dale picked out “Loving A Person” by Sarah Groves. I left that pick up to him and didn’t know until we got out there. I think he picked well.

  4. AMy

I Could Not Ask For More by Edwin McCain

  5. Diana

We didn’t dance at our wedding/reception. But I did have lyrics to “Everything” by LifeHouse read by the pastor.

    And congratulations on 8 years…

  6. So the song I chose is “We’ve only Just Begun” by the Carpenters. I like oldschool stuff. Nevertheless, if my unknown significant-other didn’t like it..I’d be willing to go with something more contemporary. But it’s gotta be sappy..:c)

  7. Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton. I walked down the aisle to this song, too, but it was a sped up, (live) acoustic version of the chord sequence – almost unrecognizable as that song – I loved it. Weren’t you at my wedding?

  8. Nothing is better than that CD in for a long drive. Great choice. We danced to Sweet Sweet Baby by Michelle Featherstone.

i am slightly embarrassed to admit what our song was…

    first – HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!

ok, remember this was a long time ago…brent and i will be celebrating our 17th year on the 18th of this month.

    so…the cheesy song is…

steven curtis chapman (i know) “i will be here”

    done.

  10. True Colors–Cyndi Lauper

  11. My hubby was a firm non-dancer so we didn’t have any music –not even for me coming down the stairs (whose idea was that anyway?)–or dancing at our wedding. Now I wish we had…

If I had to pick a song….hmmm….maybe I would pick ‘I’ll stand by you’ by the Pretenders.

  12. Fay

Amel Larrieux’s “No One Else.” I knew it the first time I heard it. Hoping the future husband will agree. I guess his input will be important. Ha!

  13. I was sort of hoping to dance to Alison Krauss singing “When You Say Nothing At All.” But Colette wanted Rascal Flatts singing “The Broken Road.” I let her win that one (and I’m ok with that).

  14. We danced to “Confess” by Shawn McDonald

  15. I picked “Loving A Person” by Sara Groves. It fit the theme of the day perfectly…

  16. Rowan

We had 3 songs(cuz I’ma rule breaker!): “True Love Ways” by Buddy Holly, “Halo” by The Cure (b-side – great song), and “Something” by The Beatles. 10 years later, “Halo” is now the one we refer to most as “our” song.
Congrats, Brody & Kristin, and many happy returns of the day!

  17. my wife and i shared our first dance to “i have and always will” by dave barnes

  18. No dancing at our wedding reception (very conservative SBC minister officiating). We had to choose all sacred or classical music for the wedding ceremony too. My cousin wrote a beautiful song for his sister’s wedding in 1976. It was the wedding vows set to his music. He sang it only at her wedding, and then at his mother’s when she remarried 10 years after his father’s death. He sang it at my wedding too and it was incredible! I wish he’d have it published (he has had many others) but he says it’s only for very special people.

  19. Today and so far, I would pick this one but time will tell! :-) By the way, beautiful picture as always!!

Each Other by Skillet (from Invincible record):

I am yours; you are mine
Believe in you, friend of mine
You’re not fading in my eyes
Could you stay? Could you stay?

    Chorus:
We must hold onto our faith in each other
We must let go of our pain, yeah I say
We must hold onto our faith in each other
Gotta still believe in each other

Time is short to live the life
Don’t give up, friend of mine
Strength to rise one more time
Could you stand? Could you stand?

    CHORUS

    It’s ok to feel weak
    It’s ok to fall down
    It’s ok to lose sight
But we gotta believe and stand together

    CHORUS (repeat)

  20. Happy Aniversary!

We danced to “I Love The Way you Love Me” by John Michael Montgomery. The song was a great description of the relationship that my wife and I have.

  21. Bari

Dance, are you kidding? I am Southern Baptist!!!!!!!! I do remember the first song we ever danced to on our first date, though. Wild Thing by I believe it was the Troggs? Now that is something to tell the grandkids!

  22. I wanted “Shake Ya Tailfeather” by Nelly and P-Diddy, but we compromised and chose “The Nearness of You” as performed by Norah Jones. In hindsight, it was probably a better choice.

  23. “Come Away with Me” by Norah Jones…this song is perfect for Adrienne and I and she is still continually saying yes…I wonder where we will be in 75 years…because I know she will keep saying yes, when I ask her to come away with me.

  24. whatever kyle, it was a mutual decision (or so i thought, haha)

no, we danced to “bless the broken road” by rascall flatts but it was a difficult decision. we started with “shameless” by garth brooks because that was always our song, then moved to “all i ask of you” from phantom of the opera, to “when you say nothing at all” by alison krauss, to finally deciding on the rascall flatts song. i also would not have minded “you can close your eyes” by james taylor.

music was sort of weird at our wedding, but that is another story. i think we walked down the aisle to the same song you did but in a different way… haha :)

    happy anniversary
    colette

  25. ps- your suit was awesome :) (your wife doesn’t look too bad herself!)

  26. I’m thinking it would be nice to dance to “There is Beauty in Permanence” by Farewell Flight… but I guess I’ll have to wait and find out ^_^

  27. “At Last” by Etta James. so much for that. ha!

  28. We danced to “Can I have this dance for the rest of my life” by Anne Murray.

It was sung by a man though. Our wedding was a WILD party. Full of country folk. It fit well.

Not my style, but in a country town, what’s a city girl to do. =)

  29. “Somewhere North” is one of my all-time favorite songs. I understand why you’d choose it.

At this moment in time, I really don’t think I could choose. But I’m really inspired by that “Rock the Reception” show on TLC and I might just put the concept to use. =)

  30. drewdown

Our song was Unchained Melody but the U2 version. We love it. YOur guys’ song is wonderful as well.

  31. I just got married to my love, on June 14, 2008!

We opted out of dancing. But we did have “Wonderful, Merciful Savior” sang and played during the lighting of our unity candle. It was beautiful. I love that song.

  32. “Come Away With Me” Norah Jones
