Interview Tonight

So, a few weeks ago CoolDad over at “Are We Still Cool” asked if he could do an online interview with me on his fancy chat thing.  Seems like a pretty good idea to me.  I can do an interview without people actually looking at me and I get to use spell check.  I’m not sure what the Cool Parents are going to ask me but I’m prepared to bluff my way through anything.

Seriously though.  If you are available tonight stop in at “Are We Still Cool” at 9:00 PM EST and say hi.  I think it’s going to start with a few questions from Cool Dad, and then turn into something a little more open.

What’s a question you would ask if you were Cool Dad tonight.  What do you want to know about me?  I know a bunch of other folks have done this but, I’ll try to answer any questions you have here too.

What are you “wondering”?

I think the world wants to know: Where did you get that sweet shirt?

Morgan Freeman gave it to me.

What’s the one thing you can ALWAYS do to make the kids laugh?

Is it something that you do at parties to make the adults laugh too?

How to you find that balance of being your childs friend and his / her parent…

    Kristy-
I’d say tickling their necks or anything related to the words “poop” or “booty”. That would be the same answer for adults too…. as long as awkward uncomfortable laughs count.

    Cathy-
I’m still working on it, but I think so much of being a parent is creating a sense of safety and trust with your kids. A safety that isn’t found all the time with friends.

I want my kids to know that if I am teaching them something or am telling them something, it’s because I care about them more than a friend would. I feel like if that trust is established as a parent, the realization of me being their friend is also established.

Will you be wearing that Sweet shirt that you have on in the photo above tonight? How ’bout the hair? Will it be kickn’ like it is in the photo above? Oh, and does Larry King really have a fan under his desk? Just wondering.

Larry King pretty much rocks my world.

In your time and effort put into the music industry and knowing the people involved in it, what is one of the greatest lessons you have learned?

I think you should start a “what are you wondering wednesday” post or something. =)

Dave - Only when I’m trying to look pretty for my wife. I usually keep it short enough that I don’t have to worry about it.

Just Matt - It’s more like an awkward refrigeration system.

Rachel - One of the main things I have learned in all of this, and I will touch on it a little tonight with Cool Dad, is that competition helps no one. We can all kick and scratch for people to notice us, but when it comes down to it we are all on the same team and there’s no reason to stab each other in the back to “get ahead”. Randy Elrod over at Ethos, says it perfectly when he says that “rising tides raise all ships”. Meaning the more I help those around me the more I can be helped. Make sense?

Brody - here is what I meant by the fan.

Not sure where I first heard about it but this was the best link I could find quickly.

That makes a lot of sense, thank you! I asked with good reason, so your answer helps. Wish I could join the chat tonight, but I will be out! Bummer.

    Thanks again, Brody.

brody…hate to do this, but i had to point it out (unless you were joking, then i feel stupid).

that’s nelson mandela, not morgan freeman.

    you were joking right?

I’m wondering: How are things in Loompa Land? The orange hands and disproportionate head size betray your Oompa Loompa heritage.

Amos - I tried but I have that fuzzy hair that looks crappy parted in the middle so I did it anyway and just looked stupid my entire eighth grade year.

Gene - He was awesome in “Seven”.

Amy - Loompa Land is hot this time of year.

Thank you for your reply and I could not agree more - Living here in “Mayberry” sprinkled with some Desperate Housewifes and Knots Landing!! I see so many parents whose children are in charge and there is no respect in the relationship - somewhere along the way the children have come to feel that they are entitled to whatever they desire and that the parents “owe” them.

I love your grounded and real approach.
I also think being a faith based family helps to establish balance as well.
