I’ve talked a little about how impressed I have been with Blue’s baseball coaches this year, but since we are so thick into baseball right now I wanted to point them out again.  First of all, if any of you have kids, boys especially, you know how tough it can be to get them to do anything.  They don’t understand organization, and would rather pour water on each other’s heads than pay attention to what’s going on around them.  Now take twelve of those types of people and give them metal bats.

When the season started Blue had no idea the “rules” of baseball.  He knew that to get a guy out you tag him and he knew how to hit, but as far as working as a team he had no clue.  The coaches just started right in on helping them learn, working one-on-one and also promoting how to work as a team.  It hasn’t been that long and the boys are a completely different team as when they started.

I don’t know if many of you played sports growing up but I did and there are specific coaches that I remember, who took the time to teach me things and showed a genuine interest in helping me learn.  Those coaches seem to stick out in my memory as guys that really cared.  Blue’s coaches are that same way.  I don’t know how they do it, but the find the time and energy to make every kid feel like they are the star, and they find a way to connect with each little guy and help them learn.  For Blue’s first year of sports I couldn’t have asked for a better group of men coaching.

Did you play sports growing up?  How were your coaches?

Welcome to Tuesday again. For those of you just showing up here’s how it works. It’s pretty simple. (1) Write something nice about someone, building them up, encouraging them, you know.. being nice. (2) Fill out the box below.

*Make sure that you put the URL of the “Positive Post” not just your blog. That way people can find that specific post if they come back to read them later in the week. It should look like this - “yourdomain.com/the-name-of-your-post”*

Thanks Brody for sharing these baseball joys with us. I know for me it is very special to get to “experience” it via you and Kristin as my two special little guys probably won’t be able to do this kinda cool boy stuff. It’s a blessing to my heart, so thank you for that.
BTW - I noticed several others on here that are doing Positive Post Tuesday for the first time - so I join the ranks. This is also my first one. Hope I did everything right. I’m kinda new at this. Speaking of that I had better go and check the links and pic and such. LOL. Bye.

I don’t have a blog to post positively on, but I did play sports growing up: Basketball, volleyball and softball. I would probably say my best coach memory was my college softball coach. She was an excellent instructor - fundamentals I remember to this day. She taught me about being coachable (i.e. listening) and being a team player. Mostly, she cared about me as a person and a player. Thanks Coach Linde.

I never really played many sports when I was young and I wish I had started when I was little. I hope Blue is enjoying it.

It sounds like the coaches are getting as much out of it as the kids. It’s such a wonder to be part of someone learning for the first time. I wonder at my sanity sometimes, but mostly I stand in amazement of seeing people become who they are in front of my eyes. What a gift to give and receive.

I did play sports growing up, and I still play sports. I’ve never had a coach I didn’t love… there were times when I didn’t like them, but I always loved them. My favorite coach also the coach that I had the most times of dislike for, but he was the best coach I ever had. He’s a passionate and thoughtful guy, and for that, I love him.
