I think that I would go crazy knowing that I couldn't leave. Kind of like that verse "the strength of sin is the law". But, I could deal with the 50 million and live somewhere awesome, plus, i'd just have friends and family over all the time. I could pay for people to come visit and they'd want to because I would have my own private beach resort somewhere.

Gehenna no! Life is about relationships - community and communion with God. It might even be said that part of life is connection with creation, too...

For me, my aversion to the proposition is not not a matter of having limitation. True freedom can only come from imposing disciplined limitations (i.e. freedom to be truly vulnerable in marital sex can only come through limitations like monogamy). I do think Americans can learn a lot about putting limitations on our so-called freedom to drive wherever we want or bounce from friendship to friendship, church to church. But this limitation, being stuck on my own property, would imply that I'm stuck in a me-centric world and Jesus said that I will only find my life if I lose it for something else, namely the Gospel of restoring relational connected-order to all things. The funny thing about the question is that the American way of life isn't too far off from that scenario. It's totally based around the individual. In contrast to all other times and places, this is really a strange phenomenon. No wonder our happiness index has been falling the more individualized and richer we get (not to mention anxiety and depression being at epidemic levels).

So I wouldn't do it, not merely because I wouldn't get to travel or fulfill an individual dream, but because I would be living completely opposed to the Gospel just as much as I would and do when I have no limitations or faithful commitments at all because there would be no room for them. For me, it's not about having no limitation, it's how big is that limitation. I think there is a sweet spot. For instance, my friends and I actually spend most of our time within two square miles - live, work, play, everything. It's interesting how much more freedom there is to walk down the street and feel safe or be known when you have consistent, mutual relationships centered in one human-scale geographic community.

OK, well that's my ridiculously heady response. Apparently, I've thought about this kind of thing before.

Oh, Luke and Jenny are on to something, though! Hehe. Great conversation-starter!

No, money is not worth it to me. People are more important. I decided a long time ago to never make any life decisions based just on money.

The music scene too dude. I love what I do too much to give it up for money.

Also, I want to serve others. I think that would be hard to do in those circumstances.

I probably would take it. if i could buy something really BIG so that i wouldn't get bored in one place. no one said i couldn't put lots of houses on the property and build my own "city"; plus like others said, that kind of money could do a lot of work to further God's Kingdom;

after all, if i were to ever get $50 million, He would be the one giving it to me anyway, so I would have to give it back to God 1st before I did anything else and who knows what kind of blessings would follow then.

Given Brody's point that we could bring who and whatever to us, I would. I've always thought of how much good I could do if I became that wealthy, and I'd be okay with staying "home" if I could help others and afford to give those I love some luxuries.

Dude. I hardly leave my house now and I'm not getting anything for it. Sign me up.

Also, for $50 million dollars couldn't you just buy the whole world and have all of it be your property?

Love , Jenny (who has no idea how much stuff costs.)

Yes, with this in mind.

It's a small price to pay that I only get so much freedom, but the legacy that I can create with 50mil will last far beyond my life span.

Still, I would honestly have to say, if I had a wife it would probably be up to her.
