Music You’ve Never Heard (Again)
So, a while back we did a thing here at “…in case you were wondering.” and it seemed to work pretty well. We all participated in a thing called “Music You’ve Never Heard“. You know what was awesome about it? We all got to check out some music we have never heard, and there are still people submitting music that we have never heard.
As soon as I figure out how this will be something way more awesome than comments on my blog, but for now I would like to continue spreading the love and add to the list. I have gone through and copied all the links that were submitted and I want to go through those again. There are a lot of new people here and I want them to be able to check out some of this music and also submit their own. So here goes. Round Two of “Music You’ve Never Heard”. Whatcha’ got?

So that’s the list so far folks. Pretty intense huh? So what do we do with this? Here’s what I am thinking. I don’t like the idea of a “voting system” but I would like to see some of the “most recommended” music rise to the top and get more recognition. I would like to see something like this really turn into something amazing and become a huge resource for music we have never heard.
I have two questions for you today. One: From this list what sticks out to you the most? And Two: In the spirit of adding to this list, what are you listening to that people have never heard?

I am really digging Todd Wrights new cd “All the Freed”. It’s a pretty amazing worship record. Plenty of deep, heart felt worship tunes on that record.
I also really dig Ryan Edgars new EP.
Hahahahaha. I knew that the first two were Zach’s. And that Farewell Flight was from anon4him. And Thanks Ally Simpson for putting in Edison Glass
Yeah I didn’t really participate in the last one and I am just now reading the comments (:
So from the list, I adore THL and Edison Glass the most, in that order. This Holiday Life is just amazing. I have like 30 or so of their songs and I love each one of them. Farewell Flight is also pretty good.
This time I’d like to contribute and add House of Heroes.
Love Jimmy Robeson. And he is a sweetheart, which adds to it.
Really like Greg Laswell, Andrew Bird and Sleeping at Last.
From my own, I’m loving Lanae Hale, Damien Jurado, Amy Seely, Unwed Sailor, 65daysofstatic and Dear and the Headlights
And to finish, I love the fact that my goading got you the best comment for david crowder..haha
I somehow missed the last round of this too, but of course i love The Myriad, Shane & Shane, & i just saw Shawn McDonald in concert Wed. night. With Shawn, was Downhere (which i hope most people have heard of) but also with them was Jason Gray. He was awesome!!!! you should add him to the list. Also a couple of weeks ago when I saw the Newsboys, a group called Article One was with them – the were also amazing!!(their violinist is too crazy for words)
MGMT and Hot Chip are class…. i dunno if you like indie music like We are Scientists, if you do check out these two bands,
The Good Fight (myspace.com/thegoodfightni)
Two Door Cinema Club(http://www.myspace.com/twodoorcinemaclub)
Brook Fraiser definetly is a great one to listen to! The entire album rocks!
as for a new listen: Fallborn

Todd Wright’s “All the Freed” has some really good music and great lyrics. Both tracks “You Gave Sight” and “The Cross of Christ” have singable melodies and teachable lyrics. It’s a great album that’s well worth your time.
Also enjoying Sleeping at Last’s “Keep No Score.”
Really love the Todd Wright cd. If you haven’t listened YET, do. It is a remarkable collection or worship songs that glorify the Father. Oh, and every song is do-able for any worship band.
I’m working on listening to the musicians listed, but I had to add my favorite musician…Jim Connolly…
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=79864256
He creates some of the most amazing music with some of the most basic instruments as well as instruments never heard of before…one’s that he made himself.
I love finding new music! This list is great! There are some names I’ve heard of but a ton of new ones to check out.
I’ve got a couple I didn’t add last time…
Ramona Silver http://www.myspace.com/ramonasilver she’s really, really amzing
Room For Two
(a GMA week find that really blew me away)
http://www.roomfortwo.com
Josh Wilson (I’d heard of him but never heard him before GMA week…he’s a crazy awesome guitarist!)
http://www.myspace.com/joshwilson
Sheffer Stephens
bluegrass/folk at its best straight from Boston by way of NYC
http://www.myspace.com/shefferstephens
Todd Wright’s debut album “All the Free” makes a daily cycle through my Ipod. Every song is ready for corporate worship. “You Gave Sight” is one of the better songs I’ve heard in a while. Check it out!
Thalon
http://www.myspace.com/thalon
That’s my addition to the list.
Oh and I absolutely love Brooke Fraser and Shane & Shane, though they are in a completely different genre then Thalon.
I got Todd Wright’s CD the day it came out and listened to it for a solid 2 weeks. The songs just feel comfortable to me and are certainly good tunes for corporate worship.
This is fun.

I’ll submit my faves from the previous list later….the myspace player is being lame.
That’s because MySpace is lame Nikki.
Another here for Todd Wright…
Shane and Shane music is a continual worship experience in my car.
I found this group called “Rue Royale” a few weeks ago while “virb hopping”. They’re a husband and wife acoustic duo. Amazing stuff.
Rue Royale (virb)
Rue Royale (myspace)
To all reading this, check out this band. One of the best bands ever. You’re guaranteed to fall in love with them. Their name is Telecast. http://www.myspace.com/telecastmusic/ Also check out “esterlyn”. Great band. http://www.esterlyn.com Shane & Shane from the list is definately my favorite.
Check out Telecast & Esterlyn!
I would definitely argue that Shawn McDonald is a known artist and his music has been heard by a magnitude of people. With that said, I love his music, yet his last album was a step back for his music I feel.

Kyle. I thought about that too. I think the new “criteria” should be that the artist can’t be signed to a major label. What do you guys think?
Brody – That could work, but I think exceptions would need to be made every once in a while.
And a shameless self plug… The Art of Whimsy at http://www.TheArtofWhimsy.com
What sticks out the most:
-Sleeping at Last and The Myriad, both of whom have recently become bands I greatly enjoy. They are my “backdrop music” for when I write (which is my full time job at the moment…)
-Edison Glass, because they went to the same college as me and I have seen them play one more than one occasion. I have many mutual friends with them, but have heard good things about those guys. They are musical geniuses, in my book.
-Shane and Shane, because I associate their music with fond memories of sitting around with guitars in my living room and playing their songs.
Who I am listening to that people have never heard:
-The New Frontiers–I saw them play last week and they are phenomenal.
[myspace.com/thenewfrontiers].
-Symon–a friend/fellow indie muzo that is one of the most brilliant songwriters I know.
[myspace.com/symonmusic]
Jon Foreman–most people don’t know that he has solo stuff aside from Switchfoot now. His music has been my lifeblood as of late.
[myspace.com/jonforeman]
I could go on, but that hits the highlights at least. Great idea, Brody. I might have to peruse this monster list soon!
I am not sure how many people know this guy but I think he is great.
http://tyronewells.com/
I have to say that San Diego has a bunch of talented artists. We’re pretty lucky.
These are my faves:
THL(This Holiday Life)
Trevor Davis
Paige Aufhammer
Jon Foreman (Switchfoot too, but I’m loving his solo EPs)
Phil Wickham
Evan Wickham
Phil Danyew
Farewell Down
Non-SD talent (just as amazing!)
Sleeping At Last
The Myriad
Shawn Mcdonald
also, I now own Daniel Renstrom’s album and that’s really good too!
sorry about the lack o’ links….I’m lame. Like MySpace.
also,
A Midday Atlantic is another great SD band.
Dave Clo used to play guitar for me. Incredible player. Now he writes guitar books…for any of you wanting to learn.
I’m a big fan, as you know Brody, of Wes Cunningham. Few have heard of him but he made incredible music once upon a time. You can get some of his stuff on iTunes. I recommend starting with his album 12 Ways To Win People To Your Way Of Thinking. Not sure why A&M couldn’t sell that or get it on the radio. Very hooky pop/rock music.
[...] Brody Harper has a recent blog highlighting some artists that you may have never heard of. Go check them out and add to the list [...]
What are the asterisks for?
Not indie, but I have to agree with the suggestion of Telecast. Great band, I really like their sound and very biblical lyrics. Again, not indie but I really like Rilo Kiley, Rooney, Kaiser Chiefs and Hot Hot Heat-mainstream and After Edmund-Christian.
MGMT is quite impressive. They, incidentally, have the most nauseating myspace(which is lame)page I’ve ever seen. It hurts my eyes. And they’re signed so I guess this doesn’t count.
a little shameless self-promotion never hurt anyone, did it?

our whole album streamed on last.fm
I’ve been loving a song called “Fashion” by Jason Morant. Maybe you’ve heard of him but I never had.
Well .. I’m probably a bit biased, but my friend Landon Bailey is pretty rad and the band he is currently in Take No Glory is pretty good too… both Landon and TNG have songs available for free download right now.
oops.. my bad .. here are the right links:
Landon Bailey
Take No Glory
I just got The Jordan Emmans Band debut album and it rocks. I would recommend this album for sure…their link is

I know myspace sucks, but no website yet.

ooh i’m jumping in a little late… but the pat little band is great!
ooh! These guys: http://www.myspace.com/trentonband
They’re my contribution as far as good friends and good local music is concerned.
Trenton’s a bunch of guys from my hometown, two of whom I know pretty well. They’re awesome guys and very talented. They just moved up to Nashville a few months ago. I think their live performances showcase their talent like the recordings can’t do…so check them out if you ever get the chance!
I know this post is from about 20 days ago…but…AUDREY ASSAD. I just heard some stuff at http://www.myspace.com/audreyassadsings and I had to say something.
Rova Zetella and Ours To Alibi! Yes!
