He’s Like A Superhero

Yesterday we took Blue up to a doctor in Nashville to get a hard cast for his ankle. We were stuck in traffic for a while so we were a little late, but got there and signed in. After about ten minutes in the waiting room we were asked to come back to see the doctor. A few pulls and twists, and a use of some sort of tuning fork thing, the doctor wanted to x-ray both feet together.

I took Blue in and laid him on the table. He sat as still as he could while the x-rays were being taken, and then we went back to the room. After about ten minutes, the doctor came in and explained that Blue’s ankle was no longer broken. He couldn’t find anything wrong and there was no need for a cast or even the brace that Blue had been wearing. The doctor asked if we brought his other shoe because there was no reason he couldn’t wear it home. He also said he didn’t see a problem with Blue playing baseball this weekend. No pain, no break in the x-ray, everything seemed normal.

Huh. I remember hearing about quick healing in an X-Men movie. We are talking about installing the unbreakable metal claws later this month.

Natalie Grant

Okay everyone, I haven’t asked in a while, but last night we launched Natalie Grants new blog and I need your help getting the word out.  Randy, once again, has worked his butt off and come up with something pretty amazing.  There is so much happening on this blog, that it’s amazing it all works.

I met Natalie a few months ago and we started talking about blogs and web stuff and she was pretty interested from the start.  She has a great grasp on what a blog is and what it can be, she’s about as real as it gets and has a great voice.   It’s a completely different world from the “band” blog so it will be neat to see it develop.

So head over to Natalie’s blog, say hello, and take a look around.  Also make sure to add her to your links.  Thanks for all your help getting the word out about these blogs.  It really is doing something amazing in the industry.

“Positive Post Tuesday”

I don’t deserve this kid. He’s our oldest. Our trial run. The one where we look back and say, we should have done things differently. He’s also the one that has taught me more than anyone about forgiveness, and he’s five years old.

Blue will be six in August. He and I have a special bond. It’s not like I love him more than any of my other kids or anything weird like that. We’ve known each other longer, we’ve spent the most time together and we both have learned a lot. Blue has grown up going to concerts with me, helping me work, and has always seemed older than he is. He plays hard and sleeps harder. Everything in his life is done with as much passion as he can muster. I’ve never seen him do something half-way. To me that is an inspiration and I hope it never goes away.

Blue is also as hard headed as they come. If there is something he wants he will not stop until he achieves it. As much as that drives me crazy I hope it is something that never goes away. He is determined and strong. Other amazing things he has taught me. I don’t believe there is anything he doesn’t think he can do.

Because Blue is our oldest, he catches most of the heat for mishaps around the house. He’s in trouble more than the other boys and sometimes wrongfully accused. He takes things in stride and again, is very passionate about his defense. He has a fire that is strong, yet always sees the good in people. He loves his brothers and always has their best interest in mind.

I am excited to see what life has for this little guy. His passion and drive is something I have never seen. Even with this broken foot he refuses to slow down. He refuses to let that stop him from anything. Today we are headed back to the doctor for possibly a hard cast, and Blue keeps telling us he’s fine.

Determination, forgiveness, drive, passion, excitement, and love. That’s my five-year old and I love every minute of being around him.

Your turn. Write something positive about someone you know. Build them up like we are supposed to. Write about it on your blog, then come back here and let us all know. Sound good? Have fun. How many can we get?

I like these better.

Thanks Carlos, No Thanks Delta

I sat on the runway in Southern California for about forty-five minutes this morning. I fell asleep, then woke up still on the ground. Forty-five minutes that would prove to cause me to miss my short flight from Atlanta to Nashville. Forty-five minutes that would force me to walk from Gate B19 to gate A33, which happens to be at the end of a different terminal. Once getting to gate A33 I was told that my flight to Nashville was still boarding but was boarding from gate T1, which happens to be at the very end of yet another terminal. By the time I made it there, the flight was gone and I had been booked at a flight at nine-thirty tomorrow morning. Huh.

“What about a hotel?”
“You can have one at a discounted rate, but Delta won’t pay for the whole thing.”
“How much is a discounted rate?”
“Seventy dollars.”
“Not much of a discount. Shouldn’t Delta pay for more since it was, you know, their fault and all that I am here?”
“It’s not really Delta’s fault.”
“What?”
“It’s not really Delta’s fault. Maybe the weather was bad. Delta can’t control the weather.”
“Well, the weather in Southern California was fine, how was it here?”
“It might have been raining.”
“Might have been? Was it raining when you came to work?”
“No”
“Can I leave now?”

So instead of hanging out in Gate A33 (that’s right, the gate I started in) for twelve and a half hours, Twitter came to the rescue. Thank you everyone that helped out bombarding Carlos’ phone with suggestions to rescue me, including you Daley.

So here I am, sitting on the Wittaker couch watching one of the Ocean movies, but haven’t been able to figure out which one. Beats the heck out of an airport floor. Thanks Carlos, and no thanks Delta. Eventually I will be home.

Stuck In My Head

Kanye West / Chris Martin – “Homecoming”

(HT:CJ)

This piano riff has been stuck in my head all weekend. I love it.

What’s stuck in your head today?

Absent

Don’t worry. I’m not in jail or anything. I left for the airport yesterday at about six-thirty in the morning, and after sitting on the runway for an hour waiting for the weather to let up, flew to Atlanta. Once I got to Atlanta the weather was worse, and there we sat. I missed my connection because the airport is freaking huge, and was re-booked for another flight. Another flight that left five hours later.

I was able to get in three episodes of Lost, and a chicken caesar salad, watched travelers, and then got on my long flight to Orange County. Seat 44A. That was me. The back row, window seat, next to some skater guy writing what looked like some screenplay or something called “The Weed Child”. I tried not to look but it was intrigued. Finally I landed at about nine last night, West Coast time.

This morning I was up early and went to my grandma’s funeral, re-introduced myself to family I didn’t know, re-connected with my cousins and ate Mexican food. Now I am sitting outside watching the sun go down, getting ready for the day of traveling tomorrow. A quick, whirlwind trip, and I will be home tomorrow night.

On a side note, we are about to launch Natalie Grant’s new site. It’s going to be awesome and will be cool to see what she has to say on her blog. I will let you all know when it’s ready to go. Sorry if I am a little distracted right now, it’s been a long couple days.

Stuck In ATL

I’m stuck in the Atlanta airport for the next five hours. The weather in Nashville delayed us taking off and I missed my connecting flight. So here I sit for the next five hours…. What to do… What to do?

Perpetuating Racism

I’m sitting at the airport waiting to board my flight to Atlanta, then eventually Southern California, watching CNN on the screen in the boarding area. Obviously the majority of the talk is about the presidential race, sprinkled with the anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr..

Naturally the brilliant minds at CNN have connected the two pointing out that the movement that Martin Luther King Jr. started so long ago has made way for there to be an African American on the ballot for Presidency. I can connect that also, and think that there is absolutely some legitimacy to that. Way to go CNN. Then they put up this poll. A poll that asked Americans if “America is ready for an African American President”. The result? Are you ready for this? 48% say “Yes”, America is ready for an African American President. What’s that leave? 52%. Fifty. Two. Percent! 52% say “No”, America is not ready for an African American President. What?!! Seriously?

I don’t really understand racism. I have never understood it, but do you think America and CNN are focussing too much on pointing out that an African American is running for President? Is it perpetuating the focus of racism in America pointing it out over and over? Not to mention putting out polls like that? What do you think?

I gotta go.
