I didn’t take any foreign language courses in high school or college. However, I was a German and Russian linguist in the USAF. My language courses consisted of 32 weeks of German with classes 8 hours a day/ 5 days a week. Russian was only 8 weeks long but we had to complete 1/2 of the otherwise 52 week course in that time. We got one afternoon to learn they Cyrillic alphabet. That was 23 years ago so my Russian’s a little bit rusty. My German is OK for getting around Deutschland.
Espanol in high school and Deutsch in college. I’ll take the Deutsch over the Espanol any day in terms of ease to learn. I really enjoyed learning German.
Spanish…failed 101
then German in College…don’t remember a word
Now I’m within six months of being semi-fluent in a local dialect of Arabic…..which is rated as the 2nd most difficult language in the world to learn….
wow, what I would give for Spanish again !
I took SEVEN YEARS of Spanish.
Two in middle school, then four in high school. But the first one in HS just kind of repeated what the 2 in middle school did (like Portorikan, I was in IB and they didn’t give us options!).
I took 2 semesters worth here at UF because I was going to minor in it, but I didn’t really like the Spanish department here.
I should be fluent by now. I’m definitely NOT.
I’d like to go study abroad somewhere where I can speak it. But we’ll see.
My high school decided it’d be a good idea to let band, choir, and art classes count towards your foreign language requirement. Now I wish I would’ve taken spanish!
Lindsey, I know exactly what you mean. I took 7 years of French and when I finally actually went to France I felt like a beginner.
I did IB in school, too!

Like Melody, I took Spanish and was forced to take a “spanish” name. Me llamo Catarina. I guess Estebania was no bueno. I can honestly say I learned more Spanish working with Mexican nationals at Taco Bell in 1.5 years than I did in 3 in high school. Though…some of those words shouldn’t be used in polite conversation. Es la verdad!
I didn’t do a language in high school, but i studied Japanese and Pitjantjatjara (a local Aboriginal language). Neither of these were available in high school.
Espanol…I think that is all remember.
French and Japanese

Ha I haven’t taken a foreign language yet. Taking Spanish [for Spanish speakers] probably next year. I’m lazy like that.

Honestly….I took none. I went to a small school and was able to be in Band instead of a foreign language.
Don’t judge me. lol

SPANISH, Baby…..all the way through!!!! And what did I learn back then some 17 years ago???? Me llamo Kristen. No habla espanol.
I took 3 1/2 years of German…of which I know very little now.
Is it a coincidence that the pupils of the eyes in the picture above are centered on Washington, DC, and Baghdad…?
Gripping pic. Wow.
Si. Spanish - 9th though 12th grade.
Profe made us pick Spanish names to use instead of our own. Mine was Magdalena.
Woah! That photo is cool but it freaked me out when it popped up.
I took Spanish, but it was a requirement for me. I was in an inaugural IB class, and Spanish is all that was offered.
Fortunately, I already spoke Spanish so it was kinda easy, but I sorta slacked because of that.

I took French. It was a great class for forming friendships and learning to say fun things like “Do you want to wrestle with the rancid monkey”

I took two year of Latin in high school because it was the easiest and I just knew I would never need a REAL foreign language.
Then I moved to Mexico for a year.
Now I’m an espaƱol major. Funny how life works out.
