This is one of the most “love ‘em or hate ‘em” bands out there.
Which are you?
LOVE em
LOVE.
bought it early today, been listening to it ever since. it’s a wonderful album.
love me some counting crows
love them! They have been on all the talk shows lately and they are great!
LOVE LOVE LOVE
(there are people that hate them?)
love em.
mr jones is one of my favorite songs.
love’em…
Love, Best album of the year so far, hands down!!
I LOVE the Crows & Have since 94 when I saw them in a small venue in Gainesville, FL. I downloaded this album last night and am 3/4 the way through - so far I would say it ranks somewhere b/w August & everything after (by far their best) and Angles of the Silence. Good tunes. How ever, my wife, ever the Crows critic, says now instead of sounding whiney - Adam sounds angry. I kinda agree - especially in the first 2 songs. Nice to have some new stuff from them after the LONG hiatus. How about you?
And by “Angles of the Silence” I mean “Recovering the Satellites” - sorry, tis early and ye olde Coffee has yet to kick in…
Love ‘em.
So apparently among your commenters, there are no hate’ems?
Apparently there aren’t many folks reading this that don’t like Counting Crows. I love them. I think Adam Duritz writing is among the best in music. He is able to say things in a way that few people can.
I have been a fan since the “August And Everything After” tape that I still have.
<3
What is your favorite song? Yes - from all of their albums - you can do a top five if you’d like. I agree that Adam is one of the best writters in the Biz…
Love em. One of the first songs I learned on guitar was “Mr. Jones”. taught it to my junior high crush in an attempt to win her affections with my mad guitar skills. didn’t work.
– used to really love them…now feeling rather indifferent.
It seems like every Counting Crows record has that “Long December-y” song. You know the sappy, emotional one with heavy piano? Typically that one is the best written and my favorite song on the album.
Here they are. August - Anna Begins Recovering The Satellites - Long December This Desert Life - All My Friends Hard Candy - Holiday In Spain
Though the live version of “Round Here” on “Across A Wire” and the live version of “Rain King” on “Face The Promise Land” are both pretty amazing.
Kristin and I saw them in Reno, NV a bunch of years ago, we sat with our elbows on the stage and Adam walked onto our table… I think he knocked over my drink…
That was the show that Glen Phillips opened… and if you haven’t heard him… you need to.
LOVE. Recovering the Satellites was the soundtrack of my Jr year of High School. Yeah… it was a lovelorn year…
My top 5 Crows songs: 1)Round Here-live from SNL 25 years vol. 1 CD 2)Einstein on the Beach (For An Eggman) 3)A Long December 4)Rain King 5)Mr. Jones
Nice Brody - My Favs would go something like this: August: Tie - Perfect Blue Buildings & Raining in Baltimore Satellites: Long December Desert Life: Colorblind Hard Candy: If I Could Give You All My Love Live: Round here/Einstein on the Beach Cover: Aime
As for shows - I mentioned the 94 one - that was from the front row as was 96 in Jax - 2nd row with Fiona Apple.
Glen Phillips - NICE - I saw Toad the Wet Sproket and Rusted Root in concert - that one rocked!
LOVE LOVE LOVE. so great.
LOVE ‘em! I can’t wait to get this album.
Love ‘em, but saw them live at Cal Expo back in the day with The Wallflowers and it was pretty much the most boring concert my husband or I had ever been too. Still love ‘em, but probably will never pay to see them live again. Sounded like Brody got a good show - anybody else seem them live?
Hate em….
Just kidding, I can’t lie, just trying to be different. Love them! I want that album!
(that show in Reno was one of the best we’ve seen, good times….)
Okay, I’ve been listening to Counting Crows for the last day and Hanginaround comes close to my top 5 as well. Regarding Glen Phillips, he’s my all-time favorite singer and I’m seeing him in Philly next month for the 8th time, 1st time solo. I also loved when Toad The Wet Sprocket toured with Rusted Root in 1995, it was an amazing show!
Separate topic, but here are my top 5 Glen Phillips/Toad The Wet Sprocket songs: 1)I Will Not Take These Things for Granted 2)Something To Say (from Glen’s live album) 3)Something’s Always Wrong (album version) 4)Walk On The Ocean (acoustic version) 5)Thankful (awesome Glen solo song)
