042501a.jpgLike most people, I know a lot more people that are more “well off” financially than I am. It’s not a big deal to me. I think we all know there are successful people out there, and for whatever reason they have done well for themselves and live the life to prove it. Inevitably they will catch heat from someone saying that they aren’t giving enough, or donating enough time, or caring enough about something. And when that happens I have heard people question, and I have even questioned myself at times, “Does God really want His people to be rich?”

This is nothing new to most of you, but something I have been thinking about for a while. There are very significant people in the world that don’t have a penny to their name, and there are very successful people in the world spending every second of their life concerned with spending their money on themselves. Is it possible for those worlds to collide, and what happens if it does? I don’t believe there is anything wrong with having substantial amounts of money as long as they are taking their success and using it to be significant.

So many times, I hear, as well as think myself, that folks with money could always be doing more. I hear Christians berating other Christians for not being charitable enough or “hoarding what God has given them”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m know there are people out there that look at their success as something that they have earned, and they are hanging onto, but who am I to judge that? Who am I to say what the millionaire across town does with his money?

I’m called to be “significant” with my success, not wonder what someone else is doing. My responsibility is to take what God has given me, whether it’s a little or a lot, and use it to be significant in the world around me. That’s enough to be responsible for in my life. All I can do is try to live as an example to others, and suggest organizations to get involved in.
