Okay, we couldn’t wait until next week, and with Christmas and all we knew that the possibility of watching another movie would be slim, so we went ahead and got the second one tonight. Kristin and I returned The Karate Kid, and rented The Karate Kid II.
For some reason I remembered liking this one better, but couldn’t remember why. I think I like the scenery better, and I think growing up the fighting seemed more real. Not to mention this soundtrack is top notch.
I did notice that it seemed Sato must have just come from basketball practice or something right into the storm because as the wind blows his traditional robe up, there are bright blue basketball shorts with some school logo on them. I didn’t realize that was part of traditional Okinawan dress but seems a bit out of place. And while we are talking about the storm. Who in this village decided that it was the ten year old girls job to ring the “alarm bell” warning everyone of imminent danger?
“Okay kids, who wants to ring the bell to let all the adults know to run to safety? Raise your hand! Then once we are all safe we will remember that you are still up at the top of some rickety ladder and send someone to get you. How’s that sound? Did I see a hand in the back? You little girl. You want to warn the village? Okay. It’s your new job.”
Not sure why I didn’t catch that when I was younger.
