Ummm… what?
But the flier said to bring all your “unchurched” friends. “Bring them so we can minister to them. Bring people that have never heard about Jesus, the gospel, or Heaven’s mercy seat, so we can sing about it.” That’s what the flier said.
Okay, maybe that’s not what the flier said, but those words are from a song lead by a clean looking worship team, with perfect smiles, at an outreach event.
“Excuse me, Evangelist? I’m still a little hazy on the ‘mercy seat’ thing… and refresh me why we are singing about someone I have never heard of that is, or should be, ‘clothed in rainbows of living color’… oh yeah and I have no idea what that means by the way.”
I’m not even sure I understand all of those words. Why would that song be something chosen to play at an “outreach” event? What makes anyone think that those words will make sense to anyone, let alone the people they have been trying so hard to get there?

Brody, sounds like you may need to figure out a way to clothe your relatives in living colors to make up for not spending every waking moment with them. Or maybe bring some Living Colors flowers. I can only assume this is what the song talks about, because I’ve got no other point of reference.
Maybe this outreach event was to bring people closer to florists?
the song is from Revelation 4…word for word in a lot of places. outreach events are maybe not the place, because it is confusing, but there’s power in the WORD being spoken, right? even…or maybe especially to those who are unchurched.

I do often find it odd the terminology we use in reference to our faith. I remember early on in my walk with Christ thinking that yoke was yolk. Why would Jesus have a Yolk much less that it was light? I appreciate it when the word can be made plain. (Neamiah 8:8 -8 They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was being read.) At the same time, I also agree that “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
I do realize that much is referencing biblical text that is not always in a modern language and other times it is just the nature of Christianity. Despite that, this article does bring up the point of “what is outreach?” and also the point of “why did they do that?”
How about we just be real and reflect a real God and his real Son and reach out to those in a way they understand. Good article.
Now I am back to looking for those rainbows of lving color. Maybe there will be more than a shamrock waiting in the pot of gold.
They should give out free evangeballs at that concert.
