“Worthy is that Lamb who was slain, Holy is he, sing a new song, to him who sits on Heaven’s mercy seat… Clothed in rainbows of living color, flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder, blessing and honor, strength and glory, and power be to you, the only wise king…”
Ummm… what?
But the flier said to bring all your “unchurched” friends. “Bring them so we can minister to them. Bring people that have never heard about Jesus, the gospel, or Heaven’s mercy seat, so we can sing about it.” That’s what the flier said.
Okay, maybe that’s not what the flier said, but those words are from a song lead by a clean looking worship team, with perfect smiles, at an outreach event.
“Excuse me, Evangelist? I’m still a little hazy on the ‘mercy seat’ thing… and refresh me why we are singing about someone I have never heard of that is, or should be, ‘clothed in rainbows of living color’… oh yeah and I have no idea what that means by the way.”
I’m not even sure I understand all of those words. Why would that song be something chosen to play at an “outreach” event? What makes anyone think that those words will make sense to anyone, let alone the people they have been trying so hard to get there?
