Nine And Counting

Tonight, just as my wife was starting dinner, I was outside playing with the boys and I got a text message.

“I just threw up, can you finish dinner”.

Now, nine times later, she is still in and out of bed, barely able to move, or even open her eyes. This is the same thing that hit Shaun the other day, and has swept through our cul-de-sac for the last two weeks.

Here’s the kicker.

I leave at 6:15 AM tomorrow for California, and there I will be for the next three days, leaving her alone with three kids under the age of four, two of which have colds still. Any prayers would be envied at this point. Hopefully it goes as fast as it came and she can sleep well tonight.

Gotta run, here comes number ten….

My Friend Kevin

I have posted on here about my friend Kevin before, but today I found out that he has started a blog called “This Little Sonic Iceberg. Kevin is a brilliant musician and good friend. Make sure to check out his blog and his music.

By the way, the overly graphic image of men laying on music has nothing to do with Kevin, or his music.

A New Start

So, here it is. My new blog. I screwed the old one up pretty bad trying to change the header, so I lost quite a bit of stuff.

I know all my links aren’t there, but can’t remember which ones I am missing. Just comment with your address and I will add it.

Also, if anyone (KAT) knows how to edit this page a little (ie. font color, background color) any advise would be great. It will take some time to get this how I want it.

Thanks.

This Broke My Heart

An amazing video made by my friend Eric, from Greensburcg, KS, where a tornado destroyed 95% of the town. Eric is currently traveling with Mark Schultz, as he bikes across America. Brilliant.

Put Down The Books

I watched a documentary on the plane today called “What The Bleep Do We Know”. The idea behind the documentary was (from what I could tell) that the more we learn about science and our universe, the more we realize how much we don’t know. How many times have you heard that? Welcome to any one of the three “Matrix” movies.

One thing I took away from all of these smart people telling the camera, and people all over the “geek” world watching, was that the search to understand how this complex universe works is meaningless. Something that we were told centuries ago.

Why do we keep doing it? Why are there twenty seven comments on a previous post trying to explain something we can never know. Sure my generation is apathetic. Sure I can look at things and say, “well it will never change, so why bother?”, but what makes us want to know certain things? What makes all the smart people I know want to be even smarter?

I think we have a responsibility to educate ourselves as much as we can to benefit mankind. I think science has done amazing things, and I would never say that we shouldn’t continue to discover but at what cost? There were all these people in this documentary who have spent their entire lives devoted to realizing that they don’t know anything. I know people who have said that same thing. We will never understand the mysteries of God, and science, so why waste our lives so worried about it?

I think when the quest for knowledge becomes priority over relationship we have lost the point of knowledge. When we choose to have our face in a book, even if it is quantum physics, rather than give our wives a long, meaningful hug, we are missing the point.

Knowledge is not a bad thing. Discussion is not a bad thing, but figuring out what is causing life rather than living it can be harmful.

When knowledge becomes a wedge in your relationships put down the books and invite a friend over for dinner.
