Smile And Say, "Thank You"

We’ve all gotten them, and some of us have even given them. Bad Christmas gifts.

I think it was Christmas of 2000, my wife and I had just gotten married and still getting to know all of each other’s extended family members.

My grandfather, whom I didn’t even know very well, got us a very useful jar of nails, (like the kind to hang small pictures on walls) a package of sandpaper, and a box of long fireplace matches. We ended up using all three items throughout the year, but honestly… who gives matches, nails and sandpaper?

Let’s hear it. The worst Christmas present you have ever given or received? And I don’t mean White Elephant, or joke gifts…. I want the real deal. One where you thought that you were giving someone something really meaningful and it bombed.

Sign Here, And Here… And Here.

“I ask you to prayerfully read the brochure I have enclosed. I am praying that the Lord will speak to you to be one of 6,000 partners who will give $1,000 now or in the next ninety days to cover the remainder of the $6 million down payment for this powerful ministry tool for evangelism…

Your seed of $1,000 or more toward Dove One will reap a harvest for years. The G4SP is built to fly for decades. Imagine the harvest during all those years, and you will be a vital part of that long-term harvest!”

Open your heart to what God would have you do. For your gift of $1,000 or more, you will receive these thank-you gifts to show my appreciation:

You will receive a beautiful art-quality model of Dove One for your desk or mantle as a constant reminder that you are a vital part of this last-days harvest for souls.

Your name will be placed prominently in a special area of Dove One where I study and pray during my travels, where I will also pray for you and your family as I go around the world preaching the Gospel. Everywhere I fly, your name will travel with me, millions of miles and for years to come, reminding me that you have made it possible for me to go and preach as God has called me to do.”

For souls,
Benny Hinn

…But… but… he’s going to pray for me and my family in his luxury office, and… my name will travel with him…

68,142 People And Me

Today I went to my first professional football game.

A friend of mine text messaged me during church.

-I got two tickets to the football game, do you want to go?

-Sure. What time?

-Now.

-I’m in church, will be for another half an hour, can you wait?

-What are you doing text messaging in church?!

We caught the second half of a pretty good game. It ended with the Titans kicking a 60 yard field goal, and winning with 4 seconds left.

What amazed me the most though, was the fact that I had no idea this culture had quite the magnitude that it really does. I have never seen so many people simultaneously jumping around and screaming, for the same thing, in my entire life. There were even choreographed cheers for first downs, chanted with a southern drawl. I had my Bud Light. I high-fived complete strangers. And I cheered for a team, that before today, I barely knew existed. I am looking at today as a cultural experience and I’m glad I was able to participate in it.

Rich Christians

Does God care if we are wealthy?

I didn’t ask if God wants us to be wealthy. Does God care if we are wealthy?

If, for what ever reason, a Christian has been “blessed” with large amounts of money, can that make him or her less of a Christian? Are they doing something wrong? Can they do more with what they have?

Let me start this by saying that I am not wealthy. Everyone who reads this blog, and knows me, can attest to that. Nor, do I have problems with people that do have money. My question is simply; Does God care about a dollar amount that we posses? Should there be some sort of “cut-off” limit to what Christians should own?

I’m not totally convinced that God cares how much money is in our accounts, assets, retirement, ect. I think Christians can be millionaires and Christians can be broke. I think what ever amount is sitting in (or not in) your bank account, it’s important to remain faithful to the one who provided it. What seems to be the challenge, is to not get caught up in what you own and can buy, but rather, how much you can help. Does money change your faith? Does it strengthen your trust in God, or weaken it?

Let’s hear some thoughts on how you feel God views wealth, and people with it.
