Here’s A Fun One

I haven’t posted much about politics here on this Blog, but there is the beginnings of an interesting conversation between two blogs. Here’s where it’s at so far.

A Safer America

Kesler Bleu wrote:
“questions of the day: Why do partisan believers in the U.S. think the electing of a “Christian” candidate makes said person the end all, be all? I find it disturbing that we allow the actions of a man to go unquestioned for the simple reason that he believes in the same God we do… waves from the front step of his Sunday morning service… and holds a certain “moral fiber” that we ascribe to…. at the same time he continues to push a war that has no end and clearly no longer involves our “cause” for ” a safer America”.
Did we settle for the lesser of two evils or are we now simply condoning the actions of a man who clearly does not know when to stop.”

Eric Brown responded:
“So what if the war doesn’t involve a safer America, and so what if it does, it still doesn’t justify it. We have brothers and sisters in Christ all over the world, not just here in America. The more I learn about Christ, the less he seems to be concerned with the safety of his nation, and the more he seems concerned for the wellbeing, both spiritually and physically for all peoples. He never taught us that we have to be safe, or that we even have to (or have the right to) defend ourselves.

I think that we can all agree that if there were ever a noble reason for war, it would be to defend the honor of our Lord, but according to Him, even that’s not a good reason. Read about James and John and their idea of killing for the sake of Christ in Luke 9:51-56. They offered their “fire calling” services to Christ, and he rebuked them, for he came not to destroy lives, but to save them. We should be willing to lay down our lives for the unsaved.

There is a scene in “End of the Spear,” where one of the missionaries is about to get on a plane to deliver the gospel to a very violent Waodani tribe, and his son asks if he should bring along his pistol to protect himself. He reminds his son that he is ready for eternity, and these people are not…Seems quite relevant to our current situation. The truth is that Jesus, himself, probably looked more like Osama than Joel Olsteen.”

Let’s hear it.

Season Sh*t

Season Shot is made of tightly packed seasoning bound by a fully biodegradable food product. The seasoning is actually injected into the bird on impact seasoning the meat from the inside out. When the bird is cooked the seasoning pellets melt into the meat spreading the flavor to the entire bird. Forget worrying about shot breaking your teeth and start wondering about which flavor shot to use!”

Playstation Nation

I heard an interview last night with the authors of a new book called Playstation Nation. The authors were saying that in 25% of homes the addiction to video games among children is physiologically equivalent to that of a drug or gambling addiction. While I never really ‘struggled’ with it growing up, I did have friends that were, what could be considered, addicted to playing games. I listened and could see where the authors were coming from until they started talking about the Forward written by a different author. I couldn’t find the actual forward anywhere to quote on here, however, if anyone can find it I would like to read it.

From what the interviewer was saying, (as well as the authors) the author of the forward compared allowing video games into your home to: “Answering a knock at the door, and seeing a man resembling a person you wouldn’t trust. He has an unlit cigar hanging out of his mouth, dirty clothes, and unshaven face. (At first I thought they were describing me.) The ‘shady’ character then asks if he can go into your child’s room and hang out for a few hours.” According to the authors, bringing a video game console into your house is the same as allowing the questionable man to hang out in your child’s room for hours at a time.

Again. I haven’t been able to read the actual forward, but would love to read it. I’m not entire sure where the connection is made between untrusted men and video games, but it sounds interesting.

Cat Stevens

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sjSHazjrWg]
At the outset of his musical career, Georgiou adopted the stage name Cat Stevens; under this moniker, he sold over 60 million albums, mostly in the 1970s. His most notable songs include “Morning Has Broken”, “Peace Train”, “Moonshadow”, “Wild World”, “Father and Son”, “If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out”, “The First Cut Is the Deepest”, and “Trouble”.
Stevens became a convert to Islam in 1977, after a near-death experience. He adopted the name Yusuf Islam in 1979, and became a pious advocate for the religion, devoting himself to educational and philanthropic causes in his community.

A decade later, controversy arose when he was reported to have made comments that seemed to support a fatwa calling for the death of author Salman Rushdie, but he claimed to have been misinterpreted. He publicly and vehemently condemned the September 11 attacks, saying they were not consonant with the teachings of the religion of Islam, and mourned the loss of life. In 2004, he returned to the public eye when he was denied entry into the United States after his name appeared on a no-fly list. He successfully sued British newspapers for libel because of their reports on this incident.

Yusuf Islam currently lives with his wife and five children in London, where he is an active member of the Muslim community, and spends part of each year in Dubai. He founded, and is chairman of, the Small Kindness charity, which initially assisted famine victims in Africa and now supports thousands of orphans and families in the Balkans, Indonesia, and Iraq. Islam also founded the charity Muslim Aid, in 2004 he was given the Man for Peace award for promoting international social justice and peace.

Yusuf Islam released a new record album in November, 2006 entitled An Other Cup, his first pop album of new songs in 28 years. – Wikipedia

Eric Brown

My Friend Eric Brown has started a blog that, without a doubt, will spur on some good conversation. Eric is currently on tour, working for this guy, and lives in Nashville.

Eric writes:
“We have all read “Love your neighbor as yourself,” – James 2:8, and we have heard it repeated over and over throughout the course of our lives. Maybe so much so that it has lost a bit of it’s original fire. So here is my question…What does it mean to love your neighbor as yourself? We tend to think that loving our neighbor means stuff like not giving other drivers the bird, or not letting our dogs poop on other peoples yards, or a host of many other things that we shouldn’t do if we have love. But I think that maybe it goes a bit further…”

The Measure(ments) Of A Man

“Hold hands with strangers? Sing love songs to Jesus? No wonder pews across America hold far more women than men, Stine says. Factor in the pressure to be a “Christian nice guy” — no cussing, no confrontation, in tune with the wife’s emotions — and it’s amazing men keep the faith at all.”

“He also distributes a list of a real man’s rules for his woman. No. 1: “Learn to work the toilet seat. You’re a big girl. If it’s up, put it down.”

“Stine blames men’s lackluster attitude on the feminization of mainline churches: “Lace curtains. Quilted banners on the wall. Pink carpet. Fresh flowers at the podium….traditional church worship is emasculating.”

Great. Now there is no way that I can be a real Christian man! I have never been in a fight, don’t decorate with neon beer signs, don’t wear camouflage, and treat my wife well… according to this guy I’m doing something wrong. Is this taking Wild At Heart too far?
